Nine months after leasing an office block in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, Apple has now officially opened its 15-storey offices there.

Bengaluru is the capital of Karnataka, and Apple originally signed a 10-year lease for the new offices in April, 2023. Now according to The Indian Express, the company has moved in to the site in Minsk Square.

“Apple is thrilled to expand in India with our new office in the heart of Bengaluru,” said an Apple representative in a statement to the publication. “This dynamic city is already home to so many of our talented teams, including software engineering and hardware technologies, operations, customer support, and more.”

“Like everything we do at Apple, this workspace is created to foster innovation, creativity, and connection,” continued the statement. “It’s an amazing space for our teams to collaborate.”

The original reporting of Apple taking up office space in the city included the detail that the lease agreement included a stipulation that no specified competitors be allowed to rent space in the same building. The competitors listed were Alphabet, Microsoft, Samsung, Xiaoni, Amazon, Huawei, Netflix, Facebook, Spotify, Baidu, and Tencent.

According to The Indian Express, Apple was keen for its office space to be near the Cubbon Park metro station. It’s also near where the Karnataka state legislature is based, plus the Chinnnaswamy cricket stadium.

The interior of the office space uses stone, wood, and fabric that is reportedly locally-sourced. It also features local plants.

Separately, in December 2023, Foxconn was reported to be investing $1 billion in an iPhone manufacturing plant to be built in Karnataka.
