Though the origin of the slasher film doesn’t have an exact beginning, the subgenre of horror undoubtedly kicked off in the 1970s. 8 Dressed to Kill (1980)
Acclaimed director Brian De Palma is known for being an heir to the suspense throne after the master, Alfred Hitchcock, with Dressed to Kill being his blatant homage to him.
