Fans of Queer Eye were undoubtedly sad to learn that Bobby Berk would not be returning to the show for the new season. And, as it always does when things like this happen, rumors formed as to why. Well, fueling that rumor mill further is Bobby admitting he had an issue with co-star Tan France.
The reality star addressed speculation about the feud during an interview with Vanity Fair. It dropped just weeks after he officially shared that Season 8 would be his last.
Bobby unfollowed Tan on Insta
“Tan and I had a moment,” Bobby explained. “There was a situation, but that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic.”
Rumors began to spread that perhaps Tan was the reason he was leaving when Bobby unfollowed his friend on Instagram. It’s always that unfollow!
“Should I have unfollowed Tan?” Bobby wonders. “Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings, and siblings fight.”
Bobby didn’t get into specifics about the feud save to say that he’s open to reconciling with Tan and that the two may have already taken the first step to this when they embraced at the Emmys.
“I will always have a special place in my heart for him, Rob (Tan’s husband), and the kids,” he confirmed.
Time to move on
Despite the feud, Bobby denies that his rift with Tan is the reason he is leaving the show. He shared that originally, all the Fab Five Crew had believed that it was time to move on when their contract ended last September 2022.
“We thought we were done,” Bobby shared. “I thought we all moved on. I know I did, and I started planning other things.”
However, during the strikes, Netflix pushed for a new contract and more seasons. Bobby, who already had plans in motion, declined, but the others opted in at the last minute. He admitted that their change of heart made him “mad” for a moment, but then he stayed his course.
In November 2023, he shared that he wouldn’t be returning for Queer Eye’s ninth season. “It’s not been an easy decision, but a necessary one,” he wrote. “Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”
Queer Eye Seasons 1-8 are available to stream now on Netflix.
