When the Vanderpump Rules spinoff, The Valley, premieres in the near future, it looks like Jax Taylor is who we have to either blame or thank.
The show centers around ex-VPR stars Jax and his wife, Brittany Cartwright, as well as Kristen Doute and her boyfriend, Luke Broderick. Three other couples who we’ve not seen on Bravo before but are friends of Jax, Britt, and Kristen, and also live in Valley Village, round out the cast.
Jax takes credit for conceptualizing The Valley and shared details of how the show – which centers around 44-year-old Jax and co. finally “adulting” – came to be.
Jax was ready to come back to TV
On the January 23 episode of their podcast, When Reality Hits With Jax and Brittany, Jax said he conceived the idea for The Valley after his 2020 VPR departure. Then, he proposed the show to Bravo producer, Alex Baskin around 2021.
Jax successfully sold Alex the idea. He thought fans who watched him as a bumbling, philandering SUR-ver would enjoy a glimpse into his and Brittany’s new stage of life, which now includes parenthood.
“I said, ‘Hey Alex, I think I’m ready to come back to TV. I think it’s time, I think I’ve had enough time off. There’s a lot going on in Brittany’s and my life. And I think there’s a lot to be told.’”
According to Jax, Alex was immediately on board.
Brittany added that she thinks the audience will really enjoy the cast that she, Jax, and Kristen chose.
“You guys are going to love the new cast members that you don’t know yet. You’ll fall in love with them. They’re amazing people. We actually got to pick who’d be on the show with us. I thought that was absolutely amazing. Because what made Vanderpump Rules so good was the fact that everyone was real friends.”
Kristen and Luke also discussed the show’s inception on an episode of their podcast, Sex, Love, and What Else Matters. Kristen acknowledged the Jax and Brittany’s effort and the two-year journey to bring the show to fruition.
“I want to give mad kudos to Jax and Brittany for having this idea. I mean it was an idea that we all talked about many, many years ago,” said Kristen, who got the boot from VPR in 2020.
“Then the pandemic happened. And nothing ever came from it. And Jax and Britt came back to the table and said, ‘This is something we’d really like to do.’ They were the brains that brought it to the forefront.”
At least now that Jax crafted his own group, maybe he’ll get to be the #1 guy in it!
The Valley comes to Bravo sometime this spring.
