Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in garage of this Seattle-area home that’s up for sale

Here’s a Prime Day deal for you: The unassuming home in Bellevue, Wash., that was the birthplace of Amazon has just hit the market for $2.28 million.

Jeff Bezos, 60, who’s worth an estimated $177.5 billion, founded the e-commerce giant in the property’s garage in 1994 — a modest beginning for what is now one of the largest and most valuable companies in the world — initially as an online marketplace for books.

Bezos — who reportedly rented the home for $890 a month — shared a nostalgic video tour of the garage on Instagram in November, as part of an announcement that after decades in the Seattle area, he would be relocating to Miami, where he has plunked down tens of millions of dollars on high-end real estate.

These days, the three-bedroom Bellevue home wouldn’t be too familiar to its famous former tenant, with the house having been “meticulously rebuilt” in 2001, according to the listing with Lin Shen of Sea to Sky Realty, who didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Across its 1,540 square feet, the home has an enormous great room, a granite and maple kitchen and skylights, “creating a bright and inviting atmosphere,” said last week’s listing.

There’s also a fully fenced backyard featuring a large “party” deck and a hot tub.

The home last changed hands in 2019, when it sold for $1.52 million, records with PropertyShark show. Mansion Global couldn’t identify the owner.

The Seattle Times first reported the listing.
