Percy Jackson & The Olympians executive producer Dan Shotz teases Lance Reddick’s performance as Zeus in the finale. Percy Jackson & The Olympians is one of Reddick’s final performances, with the actor tragically passing away last year. Zeus has been teased throughout the season, with Percy being warned about the God’s wrath after being suspected of stealing his master bolt.
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Shotz discussed Reddick’s role as Zeus. He expressed his excitement for fans to experience Reddick’s performance in the finale. Shotz teased the depth and vulnerability he brings to the role. Check out Shotz’s full quote below:
Dan Shotz: I’m very excited for people to see Lance Reddick as Zeus. They got a taste of Toby Stevens in episode 7, but in episode 8 to meet Zeus and to see Lance Reddick, who we miss dearly, bring the depth and his force, but also his vulnerability to that role is really something to see.
Why It’s Important For Zeus To Stay Hidden Until The End Of Percy Jackson Season 1
The Gods in Percy Jackson & The Olympians are not the main characters. Instead, they appear briefly to help, antagonize, or even ignore the demigods, their children. The balance between resentment and a need to prove themselves is a dance the demigods continue to deal with throughout the series. Poseidon clearly loves his son but needs to stay away due to the rules and politics at play.
Percy Jackson Episode 5’s Greek God Cameo Perfectly Fulfills 1 Huge Rick Riordan Goal For Disney+ Show
Including Hephaestus’ cameo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ episode 5 helps fulfill one major Rick Riordan goal set for the Disney+ adaptation.
Zeus has been teased as someone willing to punish Percy for a crime he didn’t commit, readying for a war against Poseidon that will have major implications for all the Gods, demigods, and mortals.
Zeus only appearing in the finale adds an element of mystery and makes him an even more threatening force.
However, this also opens the door to something unexpected, especially with Thalia, his daughter, being mentioned earlier in the season. Zeus could be similar to Poseidon in his love for the child he was not supposed to have.
This could be the vulnerability that Shotz teased, perhaps seeing the anger that Percy feels towards the Gods that have interfered in his life. Reddick will undoubtedly have a magnificent performance, elevating every project he has been a part of. If Percy Jackson & The Olympians is renewed for a second season, there will be big shoes to fill for whoever takes over the role of Zeus.
