Once one of the world’s fastest production cars, the Jaguar XJ220 is now up for sale. Set to be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s Arizona 2024 sale on January 25 at the Arizona Biltmore, it is estimated to fetch as much as $600,000.

The 1993 model has a top speed of 218 mph, thanks to its 542 hp engine, and is one of only 281 ever built. This specific model has less than 5,000 miles on its odometer and has service receipts of over $170,000 along with a Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. Any potential new owner of this stunning coupe should know that (as with any supercar from the era) the vehicle will require attentive maintenance.

Led by Jim Randle, a team of engineers worked on the XJ220 on their off time in what they called the ‘Saturday Club’. Made at a purpose-built factory in Oxfordshire, just outside of London, the car had a limited production run from 1992 through 1994. At the end of production, the car fetched prices up to £470,000.

Originally designed to have a V-12 engine, the car actually features a 3.5-liter, all-alloy turbocharged V-6 middle engine with a five-speed transmission. Regarded among the most ambitious of Jaguar’s efforts, the car has a 0-60mph time of 3.6sec and revs up to 100mph in 7.3sec. For a brief time, it held the record for the world’s fastest production car and had a quicker zero to 60 mph than the Ferrari F40.

This specific model, chassis No. 220686 was completed in late September of 1993 and was owned by collections before being sent to Jaguar Heritage in 2016 for a comprehensive servicing of over $100,000 in work. Following this work, the consignor commissioned Jaguar Minneapolis in 2023 to perform an additional $65,000 of service work.
