Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut ditches its explicit working title, Pussy Island, for Blink Twice and receives an exciting release date update. While Kravitz is already known for her singing and acting career, she will soon be adding filmmaker to her resume. Kravitz is best known for starring in such works as The Batman, High Fidelity, and the Fantastic Beasts series. In 2021, she announced her plans to make her directorial debut with a script she began working on in 2017. Amazon MGM Studios won the bidding rights to the movie and is preparing to release it in theaters soon.
As reported by Deadline, the movie has received an official new title and release date. In addition to receiving its new title, Blink Twice received a global theatrical release date of August 23, 2024. This puts the thriller movie in the same release date as Sony’s faith-based movie, The Forge.
Everything We Know So Far About Blink Twice
Kravitz wrote the script for Blink Twice alongside E. T. Feigenbaum, who wrote one episode of High Fidelity. In addition to directing and writing, she serves as a producer on the film with Bruce Cohen, Jordan Harkins, Garret Levitz, and Tiffany Persons. Meanwhile, it is a thriller that follows the story of cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie), who embarks on a whirlwind relationship with a charming tech billionaire. However, when he takes her to his private island, she starts to realize that things are not as they seem.
In addition to Ackie, Kravitz’s fiancée, Channing Tatum, has signed on to star in Blink Twice as the tech mogul Slater King. Only Tatum and Ackie’s characters have been revealed, but the film has tapped a few other big names. Christian Slater, Haley Joel Osment, Adria Arjona, Geena Davis, Levon Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan, Alia Shawkat, and Simon Rex are all slated to appear in undisclosed roles.
Meanwhile, there is a chance that Blink Twice will go deeper than a typical thriller. Kravitz revealed that she rewrote the script after the Harvey Weinstein allegations and the #MeToo movement broke out. Although she rewrote it to factor in the movement and global conversation surrounding it, she always intended for it to examine women’s treatment in the entertainment industry. Her change was to make the plot focus more on a power struggle. Now that Kravitz’s Blink Twice has an official title and release, further details should be forthcoming to reveal the full scope of her directorial debut.
