On a recent episode of Vanderpump Rules, Lisa Vanderpump worried about Tom Sandoval’s mental well-being following Scandoval.
Not only did she ask Tom Schwartz to check in on his friend/business partner, but she also asked some of his other friends to lighten up on the “vitriol.” She invited Scheana Shay and Lala Kent to Villa Rosa and asked them to “stop attacking him.”
Following a conversation with Sandoval, Lisa told the girls she thought he was in a “very dark place.” Because of her own experience with her brother’s suicide, Lisa was very concerned about Tom getting to a place where he might harm himself.
Only Tom can be responsible for his mental health
“I understood where Lisa was coming from,” Lala admitted in the Vanderpump Rules After Show, “especially given that she lost her brother … [On the other hand,] I didn’t want Lisa to place [responsibility for] the mental state of someone on us. It felt like she was [saying], if this were to happen, you would blame yourselves. And then there was the other side where it was like, I don’t think that that would ever happen, but I refuse to participate in someone doing something like that.”
For her part, Scheana lost someone close to her many years ago. She didn’t realize at the time how depressed they really were when they reached out to her. At the time, Scheana somewhat thoughtlessly advised her friend that “maybe you should look at some of your choices.” That “weighed heavy on her for years.”
“So when Lisa said this,” Scheana continued, “I was just like, I don’t ever want to feel that way again. I don’t ever want to feel like my words could be responsible for someone being pushed over the edge.”
“It’s a heavy burden to put on people,” Ariana Madix added. “I don’t take that stuff lightly. I mean, [Tom] apparently took it lightly when he was saying it was me.”
Tom suggested Ariana was suicidal
“He went on Howie Mandel’s podcast and was talking about how I was [suicidal],” Ariana said, “as if this is, like, fodder for a podcast.”
“If someone has concerns,” she continued, “they should seek professional help for someone.” That sounds great, except that you can’t seek medical help for someone without their consent (unless they’re a minor or under a conservatorship).
“That’s the route that should be taken,” the Chicago star insisted. “If he’s not going to seek professional help for himself, then if Lisa is concerned, instead of putting it on Scheana and Lala, she should find professional help for him … Ultimately, Scheana and Lala are not equipped and should not be carrying that [burden].”
