So, Lanie Parish isn’t urging Kate Beckett to get together with Rick Castle anymore. However, actress Tamala Jones, who portrayed Beckett’s (Stana Katic) friend and a medical examiner on the hit television series Castle, did have the opportunity to reunite with one of her Castle co-stars, Nathan Fillion, during Season 4 of The Rookie. And while Fillion wasn’t pranking her all the time, as he had in the past, Jones had a blast working with the actor again. Jones said in an interview with Screen Rant:
“That was so great. But I was a little shocked because when Nathan was Castle, he was full of pranks. I didn’t get pranked at all on The Rookie. I was waiting on it, but it didn’t happen! So, I think he’s matured since Castle, but it was so much fun reuniting with him and the producer, writer, Lexi [Alexi Hawley], he’s amazing. So, when they asked me to come back, I was like, ‘Heck yeah, I’m there.’”

Jones portrayed Yvonne Thorsen in The Rookie Season 4, Episode 11 (End Game) and Episode 16 (Real Crime). The character is Aaron Thorsen’s (Tru Valentino) mom. Aaron has appeared on the police procedural since the second episode of Season 4 (Five Minutes). But the officer faced his darkest moment at the conclusion of Season 5.
Much Love for The Rookie Season 6
In The Rookie’s Season 5 finale, Under Siege, Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino) was shot, which resulted in him ending up in a coma. Fortunately, the officer woke up during this week’s Season 6 premiere, Strike Back. And in addition to Aaron’s recovery, there is also still plenty of love to go around when it comes to Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil). Winters and O’Neil recently sat down together for an interview promoting Season 6 of The Rookie. And Winters told TV Guide:
“When this all started, there were these hashtags. And it’s funny because we, as actors, threw around #Tucy and #Chenford early on, but it was really us playing with the fact that we were partners. The fans truly grabbed onto it from Day 1 and said, ‘They’re a couple! This needs to happen.’ And we’re like, ‘How?! I’m so mean to her. I’m bossing her around. I’m a jerk all the time.’ I don’t think it really set in for us until they entertained it.”
The Rookie: Best Episodes of the Series (So Far), Ranked
Thrilling chases and emotional cases with great humor on top, they got it all in The Rookie.
The characters Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen have been series regulars from the very first day The Rookie’s pilot debuted in October of 2018. And in Season 6, the two lovebirds will have to walk that difficult tightrope representing their professional and personal lives. O’Neil said:
“At that point, [the chatter] was really happening online, and we thought for sure that maybe there was subtext. We were asking [Alexi Hawley]: ‘Is this a true confession that she’s masking as a thing?’ And he goes, ‘No, it’s not. This is a joke.’ So, I don’t know when it clicked. But I was surprised because even at that point, it was not a thing.”
Season 6, Episode 2, which is titled
The Hammer,
airs Tuesday, February 27 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC (stream on Hulu). This is also a milestone for the show, as it marks the police procedural’s 100th episode. And check out the cast and crew celebrating No. 100 in a very special behind-the-scenes video below:
