DC’s Most Powerful Team Make the Justice League Look Like Understudies

Summary

  • Captain Atom Brigade is a team composed entirely of variants of Captain Atom, making them far stronger than the Justice League.
  • Monarch struggles against the team of Captain Atoms, needing to use almost his full power to defeat them.
  • Captain Atom’s massive list of powers makes him incredibly powerful, and the potential of an entire team of Captain Atoms surpasses the Justice League.

The DC Universe is full of powerful characters, and the most powerful usually find their way into the Justice League. There are few DC teams who are above the Justice League in either power or status, but the DCU once revealed a team far stronger than the Justice League, and it was composed entirely of variants of one character: Captain Atom.

During Countdown: Arena #4 by Keith Champagne and Scott McDaniel, the mysterious villain Monarch gathers different versions of heroes from across the Multiverse and forces them to fight one another. In an attempt to free these captured heroes, a team made up of different versions of Captain Atom comes to their rescue: the Captain Atom Brigade.

Monarch previously defeated two Supermen and three Wonder Women with no problems at all, but he ends up struggling against a full team of Captain Atoms, needing to use almost his full power to bring them down. Looking back on Captain Atom’s massive list of powers, it’s no surprise that Monarch struggled.

The Captain Atom Brigade Could Replace the Justice League

Nathaniel Adam is a hero that DC doesn’t often use, but Captain Atom is actually stronger than Superman. Captain Atom has full control over energy due to a direct connection to the Quantum Field. This allows him to generate and manipulate any form of energy in whatever way he wants. In addition to this, he’s also demonstrated the ability to travel through time and the complete negation of magical effects. This makes him absurdly powerful. Monarch is actually a version of Captain Atom who managed to take on several Supermen and Wonder Women at the same time.

While an entire team of Captain Atom variants still fail to defeat Monarch, they come much closer to anyone else who tried before. Monarch easily swats Superman and Wonder Woman around like they are nothing but annoyances, even outright stating that he’s stronger than every Superman in the Multiverse combined. This boast seems to be true, and Monarch’s absurd power is a testament to how strong the Captain Atom Brigade could be. Since Monarch is a Captain Atom as well, every member of the Brigade has the potential to be just as powerful as he is.

Captain Atom’s Multiversal Team Needs to Return to the DCU

Comic book panels: Superman punches Monarch with the help of the Captain Atom Brigade.

Captain Atom is DC’s most powerful hero, and the Captain Atom Brigade wields far more power than any version of the Justice League seen so far. While this team is quickly torn apart by Monarch, they put up a far better fight than Superman, and their current list of powers is far beyond the basic Justice League. Monarch is just one evil version of Captain Atom, and he is capable of standing up against firepower that the regular Justice League has simply never had, which means an entire team of Captain Atoms, even if they are a bit weaker than the Monarch variant, would still make the Justice League look like amateurs.
