The death of Carl Weathers has instigated a wave of tributes on social media, with fans and colleagues alike sharing their sadness at the loss of the actor, who passed away on February 1.
With a career spanning six decades, Weathers amassed as many friends in the business as fans outside of it. That has become clear to see from the outpouring of love show in the hours after the announcement of his death. One person sharing a heartfelt video message was Weathers’ Rocky costar, Sylvester Stallone, who said, “We lost a legend yesterday.” Check out his full video below.
Others sharing their thoughts included one of Weather’s last costars, Pedro Pascal, who shared the simple line, “Words fail,” with a broken heart emoji.
Two of Weather’s costars from the 1987 movie Predator also came out to speak highly of the actor. The movie’s lead, Arnold Schwarzenegger, said that he “couldn’t have made Predator” with Weathers. Meanwhile, Jesse Ventura, who recently met up with Weathers at the Mad Monster Party fan convention, mourned the loss of the “phenomenal talent.”
In a completely different appearance to that of his role in Predator, Weathers part in Happy Gilmore brought him into the life of Adam Sandler, who also hailed the legendary status of the star in a heartfelt Instagram post. He wrote:
“A true great man. Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always. Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him. Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend.”
And fellow Mandalorian director Robert Rodriguez made particular note of Weathers’ “electrifying” performances and his “terrific” ability as a director.
Will miss the great Carl Weathers who I was very fortunate to work with on several occasions. A very kind and generous person. His performances were always electrifying and he was also a terrific director of both stage and screen.
