Spain travel warning issued to UK tourists visiting the Canary Islands this year | Travel News | Travel

UK tourists heading to Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, have been issued a travel warning as hotel room rates could have doubled this year.

The cost of staying in the Canary Island holiday hotspot is soaring for UK holidaymakers, it has been revealed.

New figures show that hotel prices have shot up from £52 in 2013 to a whopping £109 per room in 2023, as reported by BirminghamLive.

This is also a 15.5 percent increase from November 2022 when rooms were £94 per night.

The most affordable rooms last year were reported in May and June. June saw the smallest price hike compared to the previous year, just 2.4 percent more expensive on average, the stats revealed.

The Spanish island welcomed an impressive 2.7 million visitors from mainland Spain and other countries last year.

Before Covid struck, the UK market had grown from 807,000 to 1.4 million since 2010, the German market from 280,000 to 420,000 and the Irish market from 184,000 to 291000, proving Lanzarote continues to be a popular destination.

Lanzarote, a favourite holiday spot for UK tourists, is known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches and unique volcanic landscape.
