Oliver Cloutier Interiors is proud to announce its latest developer relationship with an exciting project in Denver, Colorado. Soon to be christened The Carlyle on Bonnie Brae Park, this 7,500 sq foot masterpiece has broken ground and construction is moving quickly.
How did a developer thousands of miles away from Oliver Cloutier Interiors home base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, one may ask? The developer’s project began with an interesting concept. He wanted to design a modern art deco custom home on a beautiful piece of property overlooking a residential park. This concept required a team well-versed in Art Deco. After a long search, the bespoke firm was chosen, not just because of its location among some of the most iconic art deco buildings in America, but because of its skill and attention to detail.
Coming into the project during the early architectural drawing phase, Oliver Cloutier Interiors was there from the beginning. The team used their talent to not only select the typical background finishes of the home but to also design all of the custom cabinetry throughout. Two working kitchens, a mudroom, a room dividing walk-up bar, the powder room vanity, the master bathroom vanity, the master closet, and all guest bathroom vanities were only some of the tasks given to the experts. Three fireplace features, a recreation room’s bar, and a wine display with a tasting area were also requested to be conceptualized and designed exclusively for the Carlyle. Every design is one-of-one.
“We knew we had to begin with a distinct yet simple palette”, according to Shawn Michael Graves. The classic look of barely white plaster, French oak floors, and black marble was chosen as the foundation for the millwork finishes of cerused white oak, smoked ash, and iron ore lacquer. Long linear fireplaces replaced the standard fireboxes typically seen in the area. In the case of the Master Bedroom’s fireplace, the 11 ft wide feature will be flanked floor to ceiling in fluted white lacquer millwork centering on a white Italian marble feature wall housing the linear fireplace. A basalt stone ledge in a leather finish will be the beautiful footing of the structure. White marble was then carried into the master bathroom along with fluted millwork on the custom vanity.
The main staircase was always going to be spiral. The developer, however, needed it to breathe into life, and Oliver Cloutier stepped to the plate. “Our concept was simple. An elegant and sweeping structure in French plaster would encase the stairs of French oak. It needed to feel organic yet powerful”, said Shawn Michael Graves, founder of Oliver Cloutier Interiors.
Upon seeing the abilities of the firm in action, the developer asked for help with the Carlyle’s front door. He wanted something iconic; something that would become the essence of the home. The team knew instantly that the door needed to be constructed in mink-stained dark mahogany, and at its center, an oculus of concentric circles and rays pieced together in differing textures of obscured art glass. Upon entering, the mosaic floor inlay designed by the firm repeats a theme of geometric modern shapes including a large circular centerpiece to reinforce the power of the oculus.
All of the decorative light fixtures were hand-selected for the home with intentional thought. Finishes of blackened steel, darkened bronze, French plaster, and of course a bit of crystal were required for each of the deco-inspired pieces. Oliver Cloutier Interiors believes that a home’s decorative light fixtures are its jewelry.
Expected to be completed in the first half of 2024, the Carlyle has already started a buzz within the Denver community. Oliver Cloutier Interiors is honored to be part of the forthcoming success.
