The Conners Season 6’s Handling Of Bev’s Dementia Teased By EP

Summary

  • Bev’s dementia storyline will have significant progress and a big surprise twist in the upcoming episodes of The Conners season 6.
  • The Conners season 6 will be a shortened year with only 13 episodes, indicating a more focused storytelling approach.
  • The show needs to handle Bev’s eventual demise with care, particularly in relation to her complex relationship with Jackie, in order to allow for proper closure and explore the aftermath in season 7.

Bev’s The Conners season 6 arc will feature a big surprise, executive producer Bruce Helford reveals. The return to Lanford is imminent, as the Conners continue their story on ABC. While The Conners season 5 finale wrapped up certain lingering plots, including the continued absence of David from his kids’ lives, the upcoming year has a couple of other arcs that need a resolution. Bev’s dementia storyline is at the top of the list.

Introduced in the middle of season 5, Bev’s health situation has been a major factor in Jackie’s own narrative. In a new interview with TV Line, Helford confirms that Estelle Parsons will return for two episodes of The Conners season 6, meaning there will be significant progress to her plot.

“There has been a lot of speculation about her. There’s a big surprise twist in these couple of episodes… and anybody who is a Bev fan is really going to enjoy these.”

The Conners season 6 will be a shortened year with only 13 episodes.

Will Bev Die In The Conners Season 6?

As an original character from Roseanne, Bev’s relationship with her kids is explored at length. While her dynamic with both of them is complex, it is much more complicated with Jackie. Now that Roseanne is gone, the younger Harris sister is left to take care of their mom. For a while, Bev struggled through an unknown health condition, until it was revealed to be dementia. The Conners has made it the center of its storytelling for a few times now, including when it was revealed that Bev secretly protected her kids against the wrath of their violent father.

However, considering the timeline, there are understandable inquiries about how long the show can stretch out this narrative and whether Bev dies in season 6. While a new update suggests that The Conners will continue with season 7, the series needs to give this arc a definitive ending so that it can also devote time to tackling the fallout from it, especially for Jackie. While The Conners were able to get away with a quick death for Roseanne, Bev’s inevitable demise needs to be handled with care, especially with the way they depict her health condition.

Ending The Conners season 6 with Bev’s death may be dark since it wraps up the year with a tragic loss. However, the brilliance of the Roseanne franchise lies in its ability to balance comedy and drama. If the ABC hit series handles Bev’s situation leading to her death, particularly her complicated relationship with Jackie, wrapping up the plot in the upcoming season will allow the show to move forward and deal with the aftermath of it in season 7.

The Conners

The Conners is a spinoff of Roseanne, a popular sitcom beginning in 1988 that starred John Goodman as Dan Conner and Roseanne Barr as Roseanne Conner. After the Roseanne revival was canceled in 2018, The Conners continued the storyline of the lovable middle-class family and their lives in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois. The Emmy award-winning series brings back Dan’s children, Darlene, Becky, and DJ, played by Sara Gilbert, Alicia Goranson, and Michael Fishman, respectively.
