Relentless Helldivers 2 Player Scores Over 100 Kills With Their Fists

Summary

  • Melee-focused Helldiver xXIns1d1ousXx impressively punched 116 enemies in a match, pushing for a melee weapon addition to the game.
  • Players have long debated the inclusion of melee weapons in
    Helldivers 2
, with Arrowhead Studios yet to acknowledge any plans.
  • Arrowhead Studios is focusing on stabilizing the game’s guns after a recent balance patch.

Helldivers 2 makes a point of recommending the use of firearms in the war for Super Earth but one player is going a completely different route. When there are countless Automatons and Terminids swarming the galaxy, it stands to reason that taking them out will require some heavy firepower either shot from orbit or through the barrel of a gun. Having said that, sometimes a dedicated Helldiver just needs to get down and dirty, trading in an Eagle Strafing Run for the butt of their rifle.

Such is the case with xXIns1d1ousXx, who shared a post on Reddit of their impressive achievement: Out of their total 337 kills achieved during a match, over a third of those were achieved with melee.

That means that the Helldiver in question somehow managed to bash 116 enemies to death while still making it through the mission alive. The player states in the post that their melee-focused massacres will continue until developer Arrowhead Studios adds some kind of melee weapon to the game, suggesting something like an Automaton chainsaw or a hammer that could be equipped as a secondary or called in as a Stratagem.

Helldivers 2 Has Managed To Pull Off Something No Game Ever Has Before

Many games over the years have required players to work together to complete tasks, but Helldivers 2 takes this concept to the ultimate extreme.

Ever since Helldivers 2 launched, players have questioned whether some kind of melee weapon will eventually arrive in the game. The community has long suggested ideas for different swords and hammers and how they would function against the Automatons and Terminids but Arrowhead Studios has yet to acknowledge the existence of any such plans. It’s worth noting that the original Helldivers, a top-down shooter, allowed players to storm into battle with a Saber, a weapon that boasted a shorter range than the standard Bayonet melee but made up for that with a faster swing speed.

Helldivers 2 players wanting to get into the thick of the fight will want to keep their eyes open for the new mech suits that recently launched in the game. Originally uncovered through a datamine, Arrowhead went ahead and released the devasting walker units but tasked the community with liberating the factory which harbored the armor. With the notion that the planet of Tien Kwan was the only thing standing between them and their coveted mechs, Helldivers liberated the planet in no time at all, unlocking the new tool faster than the developers expected.

Bringing Freedom With Guns In Helldivers

The idea of adding melee weapons to Helldivers 2 seems fun but before Arrowhead Studios thinks about adding them, the team is looking to stabilize the game’s guns. A recent balance patch caused a great deal of ire among players when several primary weapons were nerfed as the developers insisted they wanted Helldivers to use their Stratagems more than standard weaponry. After several users complained of impossible missions caused by floods of powerful enemies, the studio announced that a hotfix is in development that should bring a little more power back to the cause of managed democracy.
