American Will Zalatoris has qualified for the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon this summer through his finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday.
The API was the fourth event in the Open Qualifying Series.
Zalatoris was the leading player in the field at Bay Hill not already exempt for the Open, finishing in a tie for fourth place at 7 under.
It marked another achievement on the comeback trail for Zalatoris, who missed most of 2023 after having a microdiscectomy on two herniated disks in his back.
He’s made the cut in four of the five events he’s played in this season, with a tie for second at last month’s Genesis Invitational his best result.
Since turning professional in 2018, Zalatoris has six top-10 finishes at major championships (in 13 starts), including runner-up finishes at the 2021 Masters, the 2022 U.S. Open and the 2022 PGA Championship.
