Jordana Brewster Wants ‘Fast 11’ to Be Grounded and Go Back to Basics

The Fast & Furious
franchise scored another hit in 2023 with Fast X, and even though critics tried to slam the brakes on the (reportedly) penultimate movie in the franchise, audiences were mostly happy with the increasingly elaborate high-octane action movie. However, Vin Diesel has previously suggested that he really wants to bring the franchise back down to the ground with the same kind of gritty street racing that made the original movies a success. Now another star of the franchise has echoed the sentiment, which is also something that many fans would like to see as the saga comes to a close.

Original Fast star Jordana Brewster
recently shared her thoughts on how she would like to see the franchise go “back to the roots” of the saga. In an interview with Collider to promote her new movie Heart Eyes with Final Destination star Devon Sawa, Brewster said:

“Yeah, big time. I would like to go back to the roots of the first one, kind of like what you were saying with Final Destination. I think it should be back in LA, I think it should be gritty, and I think Mia should go back to being part of a group that’s kicking some ass.”

The Fast and Furious franchise originally started out as a simple story of family and street racing, but somehow it evolved into what some have dubbed “Mission: Impossible with cars.” While the blistering, and often completely ridiculous, action sequences involving submarines, outer space, and giant magnets are great for entertainment value, some fans believe the lack to credibility is starting to show, and they are hoping for something very different in Fast & Furious 11

Vin Diesel Has Been Frustrated With ‘Fast XI’s Production

Universal Pictures

While it is not unusual for movies to face some challenges during their development and production, the Fast Saga has been dealt a rough hand more often than most. Fast X lost its original director, Justin Lin, after production on the movie started, which saw Louis Leterrier taking the helm, rewriting several parts of the film, and somehow savaging what could otherwise have been a disastrous, and incredibly expensive, release.

Last year, Diesel shared a post to celebrate Thanksgiving in which he revealed his exasperation at the conflicting demands of the various people involved in the movie. He wrote:

“I got universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026! I have Concast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood. Happy Thanksgiving…”

Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan is a Fast and Furious fan and isn’t afraid to admit it.

In the last week, Diesel shared a new update that suggests he could well be getting his way and bringing the Fast franchise home. After revealing that Brewster had contacted him, he shared the news that filming on the new movie will be returning to its original home of Los Angeles after the terrible wildfires that have stricken the area in the last few weeks. He said:

“Last week, during the fires that displaced LA… my sister Jordana reached out to me and said… Please have Universal film the rest of Fast X Part 2 in LA. Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home. All love…”
