Deciding to move to another country when you’re young is a significant step that can bring many opportunities and challenges. Each year, many Brits decide to move to Spain in search of good weather and new opportunities.
Georgia is one such person, having taken that fortuitous leap six years ago and now calls the sunny shores of Malaga home.
The content creator documents her life abroad on her TikTok channel @geoinspain – and her 34,000 followers watch in amazement and bewilderment as to how she has made the most of her time abroad.
In her latest video, which has garnered more than 112,000 views, Georgia revealed that she was all the richer for living in Spain – albeit physically, mentally and emotionally richer.
Georgia stated that although she earned more money when she lived in the UK, she valued other things more, such as enjoying a cheap coffee, socialising after work or simply not living just for the weekend.
“In Spain, I earn so much more than I’d ever earn in the UK,” she proudly proclaimed. “I earn so much more in terms of my mental health. I have a moment to actually sit down and have a coffee or take a walk along the beach.”
Georgia also talked up how living in Malaga improved her physical health too, adding that fresh food and the endless sunshine made her feel healthier than living in the UK would have done.
She added: “I also earn so much more in terms of health, being able to eat local fresh food and have the sun on my skin and get fresh air in every single day.”
As expected, one of the things she valued most was Spain’s splendid weather. So much so that she doesn’t hesitate to say it has changed her life.
“It’s not dark when I wake up, and it’s not dark when I leave work. I gain much more in terms of health,” she commented.
“I earn more in happiness and the person that I am. There is so much socializing to be done after work and I just don’t live for the weekends. So maybe on paper I don’t actually earn more, but can someone tell me where you can get a coffee for £1.20 in England?”
Georgia’s video attracted plenty of comments, with the majority overwhelmingly agreeing with her about the standard of living in Spain compared to the UK. One of her followers said: “You really can’t have a bad day when the sun is shining almost all day.”
A fellow expat also agreed with Georgia’s video, recalling their experience of moving to Spain. They said: “I fully agree, I moved to Spain in 2009, self employed since 2015. Bought my current home 2 years ago with plenty of land and it will be paid in full next year.”
Another shared their thoughts, saying: “No one likes earning less money, but it’s compensated by the weather, the good vibes from people, and the activities you can do practically every day of the week.”
And a fourth follower said: “At this rate, there won’t be any Britons left in London. We’ll have them here living life. To be honest, I can’t blame them because I’d do the same.”
