Dave Bautista Believes Marvel Studios “Didn’t See” Drax’s MCU Potential

Dave Bautista, the performer most widely known for his role in the MCU as Drax the Destroyer, shares that he would have liked to see more of his character in the franchise. Although the MCU isn’t over as a franchise, Drax’s run belongs to another era that appears to be in the past. Bautista is committed to other projects today, but the actor nostalgically looks back at the role that paved a future for him in Hollywood.

Bautista played Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and several other titles in the MCU. He reprised the character in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special as well as in the Disney+ animated series What If…?. Drax became a popular player in the franchise after the first Guardians, and even in theme park attractions, where the character shows his naive attitude that has made him such a beloved Guardian. However, he always stayed in the background as a secondary character.

Dave Bautista’s Best Comedy Movies, Ranked

You may know Dave Bautista as the WWE wrestler turned movie star, but did you know he has a comedic side? Here are his best comedy movies.

As reported by Cinema Blend, Bautista would have loved Marvel to take a second look at his character and maybe give him a more prominent position. The actor spoke to Jake Hamilton, and though he didn’t mention the word “spin-off,” he implied that Drax is the character he would have liked to see in a movie told from his perspective. The question regards his latest film, In the Lost Lands, where Bautista’s character introduces the movie by speaking directly to the audience. This is what the actor said when he had to mention a character from all his movies that he would have liked to see doing a similar intro:

“Probably the best would be Drax. I think Drax, because if Drax could actually tell his whole story – this is a bittersweet conversation with me, because I always thought there was so much story to tell there. And, for some reason, Marvel just didn’t see it, which drove me crazy.

But I think that would be super entertaining because of the way Drax communicated, but also Drax speaking with such passion about his family, and his background and his loss, and the love for his newfound family. I think it would be a fun conversation to have, you know, just direct to the audience.”

Dave Bautista’s Career After His Run in the MCU Is Nothing Short of Impressive

After Guardians of the Galaxy, Dave Bautista’s career completely changed. He was no longer in the shadow of minor roles where he was just featured as a bulky dude who could only fight. The former wrestler could act, and he showed this in films like Bushwick, Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis and both Dune movies. Bautista also found a way to stay in the action genre with Guardians of the Galaxy sequels and the zombie action film Army of the Dead.

Recent roles in Knock at the Cabin and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery have been essential in terms of leaving the typecast behind. However, Bautista is still open to playing Drax again. He’s also shown interest in joining the DCU and getting a role in the upcoming Gears of War adaptation. Hopefully, any role he ends up getting will have a better outcome than Drax the Destroyer in terms of screentime.
