The first teaser for this year’s sequel to 2022’s sci-fi horror hit M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0
, has now sashayed its way online. And, while the footage doesn’t reveal much from the movie, instead reminding us of the viral dance routine from the first outing, the newly revealed synopsis confirms that the follow-up will take inspiration from one of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever made: Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Revealing that M3GAN 2.0 (or Megan 2), will pick up two years after the first outing, the sequel will, much like the Terminator before it, find the AI doll turn good to save humanity from an even worse version of herself. You can check out the new teaser and synopsis below.
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.
With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

Released in 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day was directed once again by James Cameron, and finds Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 reprogrammed and fighting to save humanity rather than destroy it. Clearly, M3GAN 2.0 will take a few cues from this, which can be no bad thing, considering that Terminator 2 is now considered one of the greatest action movie sequels ever made.
Directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, the movie stars returning cast members Allison Williams as Gemma and Amie Donald as M3GAN, with Jenna Davis as the voice of M3GAN. Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps will also return as Gemma’s loyal tech teammates, Cole and Tess, with the sequel introducing several new characters played by Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live, Hacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Grammy winner and 11-time Emmy nominee Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, What We Do in the Shadows).

The first M3GAN was a huge success upon release, receiving rave reviews (and boasting a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes) and grossing $181 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $12 million. Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and Allison Williams, and executive produced by Gerard Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Mark D. Katchur, M3GAN 2.0 is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on June 27, 2025.
