Brett Dalton, who portrays Detective Mark Trent in NBC’s Found, addressed a theory suggesting his character is hiding a secret side. The hit procedural drama follows the team at Mosely & Associates as they work with local law enforcement to find missing people under the unconventional leadership of the agency’s founder, Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton). In Found season 2’s story, Dalton’s Detective Trent serves as a liaison between Gabi’s team and the Washington, D.C. police department.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Dalton officially debunked the fan theories and affirmed that Mark is “one of the good guys.” Yet, he did acknowledge that his previous role on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might impact how he’s perceived. While Trent has faced conflicts between his duty as a cop and his loyalty to Gabi’s team, he has never actually “broken bad” in any way, and has even garnered a new love interest. Check out his comments below:
There’s been a couple of things that I’ve been a part of that people are like, “Oh, I know who the bad guy is!” Even if I start off as a good guy, they’re like, “I see where this is going.” There’s a little bit of that.
What I like about this character is that he’s one of the good guys. I mean, I think even Sir, who really doesn’t like Heavy Boots, will probably have to at least agree that he’s a good man. He’s a solid man with a moral compass. He would probably say he’s smarter than Trent, whatever, but I think he will even agree that he is a good, solid person who always is trying to do the right thing. That part is great.
I don’t think there’s a twist unless there’s something in Season 3 where we find out he’s a sleeper agent, but I can’t imagine that would be the case. He’s a straight-up good guy.
What Trent’s Debunked Found Theory Means
Detective Mark Trent Isn’t Hiding Anything
Throughout Found season 2, Trent has struggled with the conflicts inherent in his position. He understands the value of Gabi’s work but is also bound by the law, which doesn’t always align with M&A’s unconventional methods. This tension has led to moments where he’s had to make tough choices, such as leveraging Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s Sir to gain critical information. However, these moments don’t make Trent a morally ambiguous figure; rather, they reinforce his commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult.

Someone claiming to be Margaret Quinn’s son comes back in Found season 2 episode 11, but to find the real Jamie, Gabi Mosely might need Sir’s help.
Dalton previously played Grant Ward on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D from 2013 to 2017. Ward initially appeared to be a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent before being revealed as a Hydra spy in one of the show’s most shocking twists. Even after his downfall, Dalton remained in the series by playing Hive in S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3, an ancient parasite who took over Ward’s body. Given this history, it’s understandable that Trent might seem suspicious in Found. However, unlike Ward, Trent has been positioned as a steadfast ally.
Our Take On Detective Trent
Found Lets Dalton Be The Good Guy
Brett Dalton played a convincingly ruthless enemy in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so it’s no surprise fans are wary of his Found character. Found built its narrative upon moral complexity, but Trent serves as a stabilizing force—an honest cop navigating ethically murky waters as the real enemy, Sir, remains on the loose. While fans may still be wary due to Dalton’s past, Found is making a case for something better: a protagonist whose greatest twist in a potential Found season 3 is that he remains exactly who he claims to be.
