After Watching Reacher, I’m Convinced Tulsa King Season 3’s New Villain Casting Is Genius

Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King added a big-name actor to its cast, and it’s the perfect choice after his time starring in Reacher season 2. Tulsa King season 3 was recently confirmed, and a bit of news accompanied the official announcement. Some of that news included some updates to the cast of Tulsa King, and it seems the gangster show has already found a new villain for Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) to go up against. While this new villain is an acclaimed actor, it was his role in Reacher season 2 that really convinced me Tulsa King made a genius casting decision.

The former Terminator 2: Judgment Day star Robert Patrick is joining the cast of Tulsa King season 3. A new report claims he’ll be playing an antagonistic liquor magnate named Jeremiah Dunmire alongside another new actor to the series, Beau Knapp. It’s not clear exactly how Dunmire will mess with Dwight’s plans of taking over the entire South, but it does continue Tulsa King‘s tradition of casting high-profile actors as villains, as it did with Neal McDonough’s Cal Thresher and Frank Grillo’s Bill Bevilaqua. It also continues Tulsa King‘s trend of taking actors from Reacher, which could be a great sign for Patrick’s character.

If Robert Patrick’s Reacher Role Is Anything To Go By, His Tulsa King Season 3 Character Will Be Amazing

Patrick Was Great As Shane Langston In Reacher & The Role Is Very Similar To Tulsa King’s Organized Crime

In Reacher season 2, Robert Patrick played the main antagonist, Shane Langston. Shane was head of security for New Age Technologies, and he headed up a pseudo-gang of corrupt cops to make Reacher’s (Alan Ritchson) life more miserable. Since Robert Patrick basically already played a crime boss leveraging his power and influence in Reacher season 2 (to great effect), it should be exceptionally easy for him to do the same thing in Tulsa King season 3. Patrick really only has to switch from being a head of security to being a liquor distributor, and he’ll be able to be just as delightfully devilish as he was in Reacher.

I Hope Tulsa King Makes A Terminator Reference Just Like Reacher Season 2 Did

Reacher Had Fun With Patrick’s Villain & Tulsa King Should Do The Same

Robert Patrick’s casting in Tulsa King season 3 doesn’t just make it possible for him to play a similar role to his Reacher character, it also makes it possible to recreate one of Reacher‘s best jokes. Reacher season 2 referenced Patrick’s role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day by way of using the name Sarah Connor as an alias. Patrick famously played the T-1000 Terminator, who was sent into the past to kill Sarah Connor’s son, John. It was a fun moment that served as an Easter egg for fans of both Reacher and Terminator 2, and Tulsa King could easily make a similarly subtle reference.

Another reason Tulsa King could get a lot out of referencing Terminator 2 is because of Sylvester Stallone. In the 1980s, when Terminator 2 came out, Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were Hollywood’s two favorite strong men. Their films competed all the time – Stallone made Rambo: First Blood Part II only for Schwarzenegger to make Predator, for example – and Tulsa King could play off Robert Patrick’s involvement in the Terminator franchise. It could be a brilliant moment to have Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi tell Patrick’s Jeremiah Dunmire “hasta la vista, baby,” and it may be too good for Tulsa King to pass up.
