Tales of secret societies can always be slightly unnerving, especially when it involves children. Class of Lies brings the suspense of exploring a corrupt secret society of entitled students while touching on poignant issues. The movie also has atmospheric visual direction that complements the seriousness of the story, making this one of the most polished K-dramas on this list. The large cast works really well together, and Yoon Kyun-sang gives one of the best performances of his career.

A fascinating premise that would falter under the hands of the less experienced, Signal manages to merge sci-fi with crime thriller to perfection. What makes the series work so well is the cast, with Lee Je-hoon, Cho Jin-woong, and Kim Hye-soo the perfect trio to try to solve the decades-spanning mystery. Easily the most popular series that fans can check out for free, Signal was a ratings hit in Korea and won multiple awards. Those who love Korean movies will also appreciate how polished and cinematic the visual direction is.

Finding Love Later in Life
Yoo Ji-tae and Lee Bo-young’s performances have the right amount of sincerity to convey the difficulties of dating later in life. The social and economic disparity between the two is a common trope in Korean romance movies and TV, yet the approach that When My Love Blooms takes is one of maturity and consideration. Those looking for realism over escapism will really appreciate this underrated K-drama series.
