Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan
is on a hot streak of late, with his neo-Western drama hit having helped the writer, director, and producer carve out a genre all his own. However, despite his recent smash hits, not everything Sheridan has crafted has been as successful, as this divisive action crime thriller, which is headed to Netflix
, proves.
Released back in 2018, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado
sees Stefano Sollima take over directing duties from the first movie’s Denis Villeneuve and picks up following the events of 2015’s Academy Award-nominated Sicario. Starring Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo, all of whom reprise their roles from the first outing, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener joining the cast, Sicario: Day of the Soldado will be available to stream on Netflix from April 1. Chris Pratt Reportedly Replaced in New Taylor Sheridan Action Movie
Taylor Sheridan’s long-gestating action film, ‘Fast,’ may be looking to replace its star, Chris Pratt.
“FBI agent Matt Graver calls on mysterious operative Alejandro Gillick when Mexican drug cartels start to smuggle terrorists across the U.S. border. The war escalates even further when Alejandro kidnaps a top kingpin’s daughter to deliberately increase the tensions. When the young girl is seen as collateral damage, the two men will determine her fate as they question everything that they are fighting for.”
Unlike Its Predecessor, ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Was Met With a Much More Divisive Reaction
Unlike its predecessor, which was met with rave reviews and resulted in ratings of 92% and 85% from critics and audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes, the response to Sicario: Day of the Soldado was far more divisive. The Sicario sequel holds scores of 62% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside 68% from audiences on the Popcornmeter, suggesting a lesser (but still highly enjoyable) action thriller. “Though less subversive than its predecessor, Sicario: Day of the Soldado succeeds as a stylish, dynamic thriller — even if its amoral machismo makes for grim viewing,” the critics’ consensus reads.
A third movie in the Sicario series is reportedly in the works. Titled Sicario: Capos, not much has yet been revealed about the direction of the third outing, but MovieWeb recently spoke with the lead partners of Thunder Road Films, one of the production companies behind the Sicario movies, founder Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who revealed where Sicario 3 is in terms of development.
“We’re trying to figure out what that storyline is that merits a third movie. I mean, we would love to make a third movie, and I think that the actors would like to come. I think we just have to figure out what the next chapter in that journey is.
We’re talking about it a lot, thinking about it and discussing it. I love those movies. Those are so close to my heart. And I think it’s an amazing franchise. You know, Denis [Villeneuve] set the bar really high, and they and all of our actors have gone on to do such amazing things and stuff, and Taylor [Sheridan] has, like, the Taylor-verse, so I think we have to figure out what makes sense to get that band back together. I think the hope is to get all three actors back, in a perfect world.”
