Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Gets Revised Opening Weekend Projections

Snow White has more than just poisonous apples to worry about, judging from the upcoming movie’s revised box office forecast. The live-action re-imagining of Disney’s animated classic is already facing an uphill battle thanks to all the controversy swirling about the Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler-led film. However, now the most recent projections indicate that Snow White could make far less than the $63 million to $70 million originally predicted back in early February.

Well, according to a new report published by The Hollywood Reporter, Snow White is now eyeing a more modest neighborhood of $48 million to $58 million domestically. Originally, long-range forecasts published by Boxoffice Pro indicated director Marc Webb’s take on the beloved character might make somewhere between $65 million to $85 million, and, even on the low end, that window was much more promising than the new numbers in the revised forecast.

‘Snow White’ Popcorn Buckets Can Be Mine…Diamond Mine, That Is

Film fans can add yet another movie-themed popcorn bucket to their collection this March.

Snow White bringing home even $58 million in North America would be a disaster when the film is compared to the House of Mouse’s other live-action adaptations. For instance, consider that 2019’s The Lion King boasted an opening weekend (July 19-22) take of $191.8 million (via Box Office Mojo). Fortunately, though, Webb’s re-imagining is on pace to far surpass Cruella’s $21.5 million debut back in 2019. Unfortunately, that is hardly good news for Disney’s new iteration of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (which was originally released back in 1937).

The Mouse House already had its hands full with all the drama surrounding the upcoming Rachel Zegler flick, not to mention all the backlash the Snow White teaser trailer faced when it dropped back in August 2024. However, if Disney’s new live-action take on Ms. White ends up making only $48 million to $58 million domestically during its debut, it’s going to have a hard time cracking Disney’s Top 10 for comparable films. Check out the current rankings and discover where Snow White may or may not fit in below:

Top 10 Opening Weekends for Disney Live-Action Re-imaginings (Domestic)

  1. The Lion King: $191.8 million
  2. Beauty and the Beast: $174.8 million
  3. Alice in Wonderland: $116.1 million
  4. The Jungle Book: $103.3 million
  5. Aladdin: $91.5 million
  6. Oz the Great and Powerful: $79.1 million
  7. Maleficent: $69.4 million
  8. Cinderella: $67.9 million
  9. Dumbo: $46 million
  10. Maleficent – Mistress of Evil: $37 million

That means Snow White could land at either the No. 9 or No. 10 position in Disney’s Top 10 live-action updates. However, it seems unlikely that director Marc Webb’s film will do much better than that based on the new box office predictions, which also means Zegler and Gal Gadot’s big-screen adventure has little chance of cracking the billion-dollar barrier worldwide when the movie’s theatrical release is all said and done.

Snow White joins the 2025 box office when it hits theaters on March 21, 2025, and will go head-to-head with the Robert De Niro-led The Alto Knights and Flying Lotus’ Ash. For those who are interested in comparing the new version to its predecessor, the animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is currently available to stream on Disney+, as are all the live-action titles which appear in the aforementioned Top 10 list, except for Maleficent.
