Though his work is wide-ranging, a huge part of Gerard Butler‘s career has revolved around action films. After appearing in a period piece for his debut film, Butler played a supporting role in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997. Since then, he has been in multiple other action movies, including Olympus Has Fallen and Kandahar. Some of his action films have fallen into the climate survival subgenre, including both Greenland and Geostorm, the former of which has a sequel, Greenland: Migration, scheduled for this year.
One of Butler’s biggest action franchises as a leading man is the Den of Thieves movies. Most recently, the franchise saw the release of its second installment, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. The movie grossed $56.7 million worldwide, making it the no. 5 highest-grossing movie of the year so far. Pantera received decent reviews, a reception that was positive enough to warrant the development of a third film. Now, another one of Butler’s action movies is succeeding on streaming two years later.

Our Take On Plane’s Streaming Success
Butler Has Another Streaming Release Coming Up
Plane has Butler to thank, both for its initial success and streaming resurgence. The streaming release date of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is also approaching, as the film arrives on Netflix on March 20. Based on the success of Plane on streaming, this film is also likely to succeed at home, gaining momentum as more people watch Butler’s movies on Peacock and other platforms. In turn, this may spur even further interest in Butler, and we might see a trend of more and more of his films popping up on the streaming charts in the coming weeks.
