Without American support, Ukraine will fall. Not Crimea and the Donbas: Ukraine. Despite the bravery of its soldiers – real, and deserving of recognition, for these people are dying for their country! – Ukraine is the cat’s paw, were it not for the support of almighty America.
Consequently, to come out and publicly bite the VP and President of the country without which Ukraine will be a Russian province in six months’ time – a feat that ex-actor Zelensky has just achieved – is childish, immature, counter-productive, and quite delirious. Ukraine deserves better.
You can discuss American plans for peace in Ukraine, debate them, oppose them: of course! But not in front of the cameras, and certainly not in that professorial tone that does not suit the man who has received 350 billion in American aid over the last three years.
Will Europe take the place of the United States in Ukraine?
For three years, the European ‘elites’ and the EU in particular, have been waging a verbal all-out war against Russia, with the aim of recovering the Donbas and even Crimea. At the same time, in the name of the Green Deal, Europe has been methodically destroying its industrial, and therefore military, capacities. Collaborators with the Russian regime could not have done ‘better’.
You can’t wage war without the basic commodity of ammunition. Europe, financially bereft and militarily impotent, does not have the financial and military resources to take the place of the USA in Ukraine. Accustomed to fantasizing behind closed doors, the EU elites are forgetting that language is not demiurgic: you can’t create divisions with words.
In reality, the strategy of these martial European ‘elites’ is for the Americans to lead and finance the war against Russia. A proxy war that is all the more comfortable because we don’t have to pay for it in men, equipment or money. Then Trump came along, and the European strategy broke down.
Europe should remember that, beyond the case of Ukraine, it does not have the means, without American support, to oppose Russia militarily – just a second-rate power like Turkey.
What is at stake in the war in Ukraine is, therefore, vital for Europeans, but not in the way they think: the issue is to retain American protection or lose it. If we lose it, we lose everything. You can’t invent armies and military equipment that don’t exist in a fortnight.
There is no Atlanticism against the Americans.
Mark Rutte-style Europeans who profess a strictly observant Atlanticism, while opposing the US administration head-on, are a living – and sterile – contradiction. There will be no Atlanticism against the Americans. The American people have made a clear democratic choice: it is up to us to respect it.
It follows from the foregoing:
- The USA will impose a negotiated peace in Ukraine, because that is what it wants.
- Europeans will only regain their own military capability by destroying the Green Deal.
