‘Prison Break’ Reboot Casts Lukas Gage, Emily Browning, Drake Rodger

The Prison Break reboot at Hulu may not be giving us another season with Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), but it is giving us quite the new cast to make up for it. According to a new report from Variety, the Elgin James-created reboot has cast three series regulars — and they all come from majorly successful shows.

Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger have been cast to lead the show for the pilot episode that has been ordered by the streamer. And while you may not know those names off the top of your head, you absolutely know their faces and have likely seen (and loved!) at least one thing they have done in recent years.

Set in the same world as the original Prison Break, but telling an entirely new story of its own, the show will focus on three characters to be played by the actors above. Browning will star as Cassidy Collins, described as “an ex-soldier turned corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Gage will inhabit the role of Jackson, “a politician from a well-to-do background in his first congressional campaign.” While Rodger will play Tommy, “an inmate at one of the deadliest prisons in America, incarcerated ten years ago.”

Many fans worry when they hear their favorite series is getting rebooted or a sequel years after the fact. Is it going to be as good as the original? Has too much time passed? Are the same people who made the first iteration of the show so good even still involved? To that end, allow us to assuage some fears. Elgin James, the reboot’s showrunner, may not have been involved in the original, but the Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws creator is not going it alone. According to an earlier report from Deadline, four executive producers from the original series, including Dawn Olmstead, creator Paul Scheuring, as well as Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz, are all involved in the new iteration.

And even though we don’t know the exact plot details (yet!), we know that the series that Gage, Browning, and Rodgers have been involved in are seriously good dramas adored by fans and critics alike. Shows like The White Lotus and You, where Gage made a name for himself (including *that scene* from the first season of Lotus with Murray Bartlett). Or American Gods and The Affair, two beloved Starz series in which Browning played a major part. And even Rodgers, arguably the least experienced and known of the three, has been making a name for himself with work on Landman and the Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters. So there may not be a need to worry there, either, Prison Break fans — these actors know how to play to all the drama, action, humor, and mystery you loved in the initial series.
