The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Is “The Revolution We’ve All Needed,” Teases Star

The Handmaid’s Tale star promises a revolution to come in the upcoming sixth and final season, which is scheduled to arrive on April 8. In the show, Amanda Brugel plays Rita Blue, a housekeeper at the Waterford house and June’s ally. The final season’s logline sees June (Elizabeth Moss) determined to take down Gilead, with Luke (“O-T” Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) joining the resistance in pursuit of justice and freedom.

At ScreenRant‘s SXSW media suite, Brugel teased the upcoming season while promoting her upcoming movie, Sweetness. The actor shared that the new season will depict a much-needed revolution, featuring everyone fighting with grit. She also promised that season 6 will be worth the wait. Check out her comment below:

I think you get to see everyone fight back with some grit this time, that’s all I’ll say. Fans have been waiting for a really long time, and they’ve been really patient, and the payoff will be amazing. Just hold on to your [hats]. It’s going to be the revolution that we’ve all needed.

It Offers What Viewers Have Been Waiting For

In 2022, after The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 finale came out, Moss revealed that the reason season 6 would take a long time to make is that the show gets bigger with each season. In a separate interview, she also teased that June is on track to become a heroine. The new season will see her figuring out “who she is and who she’s going to be for the rest of her life,” with season 5 gradually building up to the point where she realizes that the fight is larger than herself.

Our Take On The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

The Handmaid’s Tale Has Been Building Up To This Season

Janine and June trying to scape in The Handmaid's Tale

Based on Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in a near-future New England, where the patriarchal, totalitarian Republic of Gilead has overthrown the United States. The show tackles themes including misogyny, patriarchy, and reproductive rights and has shown the repressive reality June and many other young women are forced to endure. Unlike the novel’s ending, where June is taken away by the Eyes, leaving her fate in uncertainty, the show has extended every character’s arc past the book.

In a way, the show has spent five seasons building up to the final chapter. As much as season 6 is about the big fight that will go down between those repressed and those in power, the season is also about characters coming together in the revolution, which viewers have been waiting for since the show arrived in 2017. Brugel’s comment certainly adds another layer of excitement to the highly anticipated new season of The Handmaid’s Tale, and it sounds like there will be both grit and surprises.
