‘The Monkey’ Director Has the Absolute Best Answer When Asked If He’d Direct a James Bond Movie

While he enjoys the success of his latest movie, the adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Monkey, Osgood “Oz” Perkins still finds the time to share his hot takes. The director went on a quick Q&A with fans who were eager to know a bit more about the visionary director and his unique horror career. However, opening up the floor to questions from the public is always going to throw a few curveballs, and one of those was the question whether Perkins would be interested in directing a movie in the James Bond franchise.

Through a session on Reddit, Perkins took the mic to answer several questions about his career, his inspirations, and… directing James Bond? A user known as jokermobile333 asked Perkins the following question: “Are you open to directing a bond movie/trilogy? If so, who would you cast as your version of bond?” For the most part, the question remains unanswered when it comes to who he might case, because he brutally responded:

“No because f*ck Jeff Bezos.”

James Bond movies have always made big bucks at the box office, but which installments performed much better than the rest?

Perkins clearly is in the same boad as many other fans of the Bond franchise, and is not particularly happy with Amazon MGM Studios snatching away the rights to the super spy. It wasn’t cheap, but Amazon mastermind Jeff Bezos went all in on the gamble to acquire one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. Curiously, a few hours after the acquisition was announced, Bezos asked the most important question of all on social media: “Who’d you pick as the next James Bond?”

The director of Longlegs, The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House joins millions of James Bond fans whose outcry was heard all around the world when the announcement was made. The franchise had previously been steered through rough times and smooth by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson for many years, and they were responsible for some of the best entries in the universe created by author Ian Fleming in the 1950s. But now, they’re out, and with Amazon MGM Studios now having complete creative control, many people are bracing themselves for a massive overhaul and plenty of unnecessary spinoffs.

Osgood Perkins Also Shared Some Non-Bond Thoughts

After his brief moment pondering the future of the Bond franchise, Perkins also answered a few other interesting questions about his movies. For example, he shared the list of his favorite shots from his movies:

“The opening shot of LONGLEGS from the car approaching. The young witch raising her arms in GRETEL AND HANSEL. Kat lifting rose by her hair to cut her head off in THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER. The priest saying ‘oh f*ck’ in THE MONKEY. The opening smeary shot of the ghost in I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE.”

He also made it very clear that Nicolas Cage’s singing in Longlegs was the actor’s decision: “in the script it says ‘he sings…’ and then I had one of the greatest movie stars of all time do whatever he wants.” When asked about his film heroes, the actor/director replies with a bunch of names and titles that include Stanley Kubrick, Saul Bass, Shelley Duvall, David Lynch, Vertigo, Goodfellas, and Moonlight, among others.
