Today’s Connections puzzle is one of the tough ones, as it gives you all of the words that start with the letter T and you will have to figure that out. However, you will not have to do so alone if you are reading this, because I have all the hints you need to get this one. This can be a tough one to crack due to the similarity of all of the words, but there are ways you can get it before that’s done.
If you want to try something out that isn’t strictly a word game, you can try out the NYT’s Tiles puzzle. It is more image-based, and you will be trying to undo each tile by clearing it layer by layer. However, the faster and the more you are able to clear in order, the better your score will be. You will be solving things quickly once you get going, as you will be flying through tiles as fast as you can click them.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
MARCH 22 #650
This puzzle looks very intimidating when you first pull it up, but it was much easier to me than similar puzzles in other Connections games. Other single starting-letter puzzles have felt a lot harder, including a different one that I remember with a bunch of T’s. However, you do have to pay attention. There are some places where it is really hard to get to the end of this puzzle. However, a few key details will help you finish this one off:
- One category is about things that can make sound
- One category is about things that you may have that aren’t very important
- One category is about words that all start with the same prefix
- One category is about four words that share a trait that is a little surprising when it comes up, but it has to do with how the words can be broken down

TAMBOURINE |
THEREMIN |

TROMBONE |
The big trick that you have to miss here is TRIANGLE, as it feels like it should very much belong here. The THEREMIN isn’t a very well-known instrument, at least in certain circles. I was in band for years and hadn’t heard of it until much later. So you would have to have some specific knowledge not put TRIANGLE here in its place. I think the other three words are much more obvious and easier to put together.

TCHOTCHKE |

TRIFLE |
TRINKET |
TRIFLE and TRINKET are both a potential tripping point here, as they also start with the TRI-. There are a lot of words that start with that prefix in this puzzle actually, and you have to get a little lucky to notice the difference between them. However, TRIFLE and TRINKET have a very similar meaning as well, and so does THINGAMAJIG. I have to say, I had not heard of TCHOTCHKE, but it was the only word that I didn’t have a reference for, so I guessed that it went here and it was right.

TRIANGLE |
TRIDENT |
TRILLION |
TRILOBITE |
This one is hard just because of all the TRI- words that I have mentioned before. It could be difficult to narrow things down, but the last two categories don’t have a lot of words that would make sense together in any other way. It has to be something other than a definition. I at this point had narrowed it down to only having these four TRI-words, so it was easier to make a guess and hope it was right.

TUBERCULOSIS |
This one was kind of a funny category after I got to it and saw what it was. It makes sense, and I’m onboard with this one, but the wording itself made me laugh. I think it’s interesting how much we abbreviate things in general, it’s an odd cultural quirk. There are a lot of different options, but these four are an interesting set. It’s always fun to see a surprise TUBERCULOSIS reference.
