Top rated UK beach is a ‘hidden gem’ with ‘rugged, unspoilt beauty’ | UK | Travel

Recognised as one of the finest beaches in this corner of the UK, Bradwell boasts stunning views and a sandy shoreline seldom found along this stretch of coast. However, its idyllic appearance comes with a catch: frequent sightings of adder snakes.

The area is also a paradise for walkers due to its proximity to the Saltmarsh Coastal trail, which covers 75 miles of breathtaking coastline in the Maldon district.

This hidden treasure is ideal for those looking for beautiful views and a tranquil pace of life. The Essex beach’s remote setting ensures it remains largely undisturbed by the masses of tourists usually drawn to more popular coastal destinations, making it a perfect spot for a serene getaway.

Visitors can soak up the beach’s raw, untouched beauty, showcasing expansive views across the estuary, with boats gently swaying on the water, reports Essex Live.

Culture website Muddy Stilettos recently highlighted Bradwell Beach as one of Essex’s top hidden gem beaches for 2024, describing it as an “atmospheric find”, where the River Blackwater converges with the North Sea.

This charming spot, overlooked by historic monasteries, chapels, oyster sheds, and frequently shrouded in salty grey mist, has been touted as a perfect refuge for those seeking solace from inclement weather. Muddy Stilettos suggested embracing the rain and taking a tranquil stroll along the shoreline.

Bradwell Beach is a haven for dog walkers and those craving peace and quiet, earning positive reviews from locals. However, some visitors have expressed mild concerns about occasional snake sightings in the nearby woods.

A concerned visitor posted on Google Reviews: “Good view. The Chapel Beach car park is a bit too far from the beach. Public facilities, such as toilets, cafes are a bit far too. I would recommend avoiding woods and jungle as adder snakes spotted here.”

Another tourist wrote: “Although Bradwell Beach isn’t packed with amenities, it’s perfect for those seeking a quieter, more natural coastal experience. We had brought a picnic with us, and there were plenty of spots along the grassy areas to sit, eat, and enjoy the views. It’s a very tranquil place, with few visitors, which made it feel like we had the entire beach to ourselves at times.

“Overall, the visit to Bradwell Beach was refreshing and peaceful. It’s an excellent spot for a relaxing afternoon, especially if you’re looking to unwind with good company. The combination of coastal scenery, fresh air, and quietude makes it a great destination for anyone wanting to disconnect and appreciate nature.”
