For more than a decade, Josh Hartnett
has kept the digital world at arm’s length, preferring not to put his face on social media like many of his peers. However, his latest movie, Fight or Flight,
has delivered such incredible reviews that it has been enough to coax him into the modern world of TikTok dances, cat pictures, online trolls…yeah, maybe there is a reason that this could be a very limited appearance for the actor.
Fight or Flight is a new action movie that sees Hartnett playing an ex-secret service agent on a plane from Bangkok to San Francisco that just happens to be full of assassins all out to kill the same person he has been tasked with tracking. While the premise sounds like plenty of other similar movies, Fight or Flight has landed an unexpected 100% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer score. Certainly by no coincidence, Hartnett chose the same day to “promote” his movie on Instagram, noting that he was doing so “before ghosting social media for another 10 years.” He’s probably not joking either.

Josh Hartnett’s teenage heartthrob years allowed him to smoothly transition into the darker world of horror, in which he’s excelled.
As one of those actors who very much prefers to step back from the glare of Hollywood’s bright lights, cameras, and gossip, following a similar path to Jurassic World: Rebirth star Scarlett Johansson, who recently revealed that she had declined a request to promote the movie on social media ahead of its release this summer.
Josh Hartnett Is Giving Off ‘John Wick’ Vibes in ‘Fight or Flight’
Josh Hartnett was last seen playing a cornered killer in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, and in Fight or Flight, he is playing an assassin, and sporting bleach-blonde hair to boot. However, this time he is taking on a more action-orientated role at 37,000 as he fights for survival on the flight from hell.
Fight or Flight is directed by James Madigan (Runaways) and stars Hartnett alongside Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton) as the mysterious target that Hartnett’s assassin is tasked with protecting. The rest of the cast includes Julian Kostov (Shadow and Bone), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), JuJu Chan Szeto (Wu Assassins), and Marko Zaror (John Wick: Chapter 4). You can check out the official synopsis for Fight or Flight below.
“Exiled American agent Lucas Reyes is given one last chance to redeem himself – the assignment is to track down and identify a mysterious, international high-value asset known only as The Ghost on a flight from Bangkok to San Francisco. Complicating matters, the plane is filled with assassins from around the world who are assigned to kill them both. The pair must work together in a fight for their lives. At 37,000 feet, the stakes have never been higher.”
While Hartnett’s social media moment may be a one-off, behind the scenes, he and director James Madigan have spent months championing Fight or Flight as a throwback to thrillers such as Passenger 57 and Executive Decision. If the film soars at the box office, Hartnett may well put in another brief social media appearance before drifting back into the analogue world for another decade. Regardless, Fight or Flight is proving to be the right movie at the right time, as action thrillers are unable to do much wrong in the eyes of audiences. With such a positive reaction from critics, it is hard to see Fight or Flight being anything other than a fighting success when it releases next month.
