Luke Bryan Freaks Out Over His Own Song On American Idol

Country mega-star Luke Bryan was ecstatic to live the moment during American Idol when a contestant performed one of his songs; promptly exploding with excitement on Twitter at the time, “Oh my God, this is my song! #idol,” along with a clip of the contestant performing.

The moment resonated with fans, too, and responses poured in to celebrate the meta occurrence. Shannon Moore kept it simple: “Yummy ❤️.” Grace L echoed, “Love that song!” while Kimberly Lanham amped it up with, “Play it again, play it again,” and followed it with “O this is my song #AmericanIdol @lukeBryan” for emphasis.

On the other hand, others were not so lovey-dovey. Buddy Little took to the thread to malign “modern singing styles,” ranting, “Quick question, while I know it is Rock and Roll hof week, a few really did rock and roll; the others just screamed runs to r&b or soul. Stop telling these kids to go hard every sing Because all they hear is scream runs into the mic. Runs don’t emote emotion.”

Most were praise-filled responses: “Yummy” from Stephanie Joyner; heart emojis from Sherry Kreiger; Maci SAW TAYLOR, however, took it next level, begging in all-caps, “PLEASE ADD IT TO THE SETLIST ISTG”-that’s internet speak for “I swear to God,” in case you’re not down with the kids these days.

Gillian Kelley may claim dominion over the replies, looping Bryan’s lyrics in in tweeting “Play it again, play it again, play it again,” alongside a GIF of the singer performing. Margod kept it short and sweet with “..sing it,” while another Gillian Kelley tweet (same name, different account?) simply cheered, “I love this!!!!”

It shows how Bryan seems to stand between both sides of the Idol experience-in this case both mentor and hitmaker, so he can appreciate competition from more angles than one. His sheer spontaneity goes to prove that even multi-platinum artists still become giddy hearing their stuff in unexpected places.

However, it is pretty much unavoidable to judge from the tweets if the contestant did justice with that kind of performance or not, but with Bryan’s impassioned expression, they sure must have done something right. It also indicates how social media enabled instantaneous feedback between celebrities and the public- quick off-the-cuff reactions spark an immediate discussion.

But this is just another day for Bryan balancing his two roles-the country’s good ol’ boy next door and the most excited judge on reality television. But for one Idol contender, they got the ultimate co-sign when the artist behind the song gave them a virtual thumbs up in real time. Mere water under the bridge for the next round!
