Venice hits visitors with extra fee and huge fine for non-payment in blow for tourists | Travel News | Travel

If you’re planning on heading to Venice for the Easter holidays or during the summer, you’ll want to know about this one new fee that’s coming into effect no later than this week. The access fee for daytrippers entering the beautiful historic centre has increased for visitors who buy the access less than four days before visiting – from about £4.27 last year to £8.50 in 2025. The fee will come into effect as soon as Friday, April 18.

Visitors will need to pay the fee daily from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm every single day throughout April. In May, the fee will be required from Thursday, May 1st, until Sunday, and then every Friday to Sunday thereafter. In June and July, visitors will be charged every Friday to Sunday, with the exception of June 2nd, when it will also be charged on that Monday.

The charge will now apply for double the amount of days in 2025 in comparison to last year.

Anyone found in the designated control points without the required documentation could be hit with a fine of between €50 to €300 (£42 to £256).

An advance booking incentive has been introduced for 2025 which allows you to pay a reduced fee €5, which is about £4.27, provided the payment is made no later than the fourth day (inclusive) before the arrival to Venice.

If the payment is made within three days before the access date, the full access fee of €10 (£8.50) will apply.

The fee does not apply to those accessing only Ponte della Libertà, Stazione Marittima, Isola Nova del Tronchetto, Ponte della Libertà, Piazzale Roma, Santa Lucia Train Station, and the area directly connected to Piazzale Roma and San Basilio Station, provided they do not enter the historic city. The fee doesn’t apply to those visiting the minor islands of the Venetian lagoon.

Visitors staying in the areas of the historic centre will also be spared from the fee as they already have a tourist tax to pay.
