‘Barbarian’ Is Streaming for Free on Tubi

Barbarian, the horror gem of 2022 with a whopping 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is streaming for free on Tubi. The film, starring Georgina Campbell and Bill Skarsgård, opened for business on the platform on May 1, meaning viewers could check in and discover the dark secrets of an Airbnb you really don’t want to find yourself checking into.

Written and directed by Zach Cregger, Barbarian was like a breath of fresh air for horror fans who were tired of the same old sequels and franchises. At first, Cregger’s movie feels like the usual execution of its premise, but things take a dark turn halfway through, and nothing in Barbarian ends up being like you imagined. This twist is brilliantly presented with a tone shift that makes the movie tilt in several unexpected directions before its true disturbing tale unfolds. We won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it, but after a few plot reveals, you may find yourself scratching your head a couple of times.

10 Slashers With Really Surprising Twists

The slasher subgenre tends to offer straightforward thrills. But once in a while, there is a twist to remember.

The movie follows young Tess Marshall, a young professional who has arrived in Detroit for a job interview. Her Airbnb rental has been double-booked, and inside there is a strange young man who doesn’t exactly give her great vibes. However, Keith turns out to be a respectful dude, and Tess survives the night. The day after, they discover that the cozy rental harbors a secret in the basement. Per the film’s official plot synopsis:

In town for a job interview, a young woman arrives at her Airbnb rental late at night only to find that the house has been mistakenly double-booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to stay the night anyway but soon discovers that there is much more to be afraid of in the house than the other house guest.

Barbarian also stars Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis and Richard Brake. It was critically acclaimed, hence the notable Rotten Tomatoes score. With audiences, it was also a hit, making more than $45 million from a $5 million production budget. It was a very notable box office performance, considering the movie is not based on any previous IP, and Cregger was debuting in the director’s chair. This great result probably convinced studios to greenlight the director’s next and upcoming horror attempt.

‘Barbarian’s Director Will Be Back in 2025 With a Bone-Chilling Mystery

Zach Cregger returns to the director’s chair in 2025 with the original horror film Weapons. The film, which has mostly been kept under wraps, stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, June Diane Raphael, Alden Ehrenreich and Austin Abrams, among others. It is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 8, 2025.

Weapons follows a community where a group of children goes missing when everyone else is asleep. Not much is known about Cregger’s next horror feature, but a series of promotional videos on social media may have given horror fans an idea. The videos show surveillance footage of children running into deserted streets in the middle of the night, disappearing from their homes, until they eventually return and mayhem ensues.
