Born Again Episode He “Really Pushed Back On”

Charlie Cox reveals the Daredevil: Born Again episode that he disliked and tried to get changed. After the success of the first season, the crew behind the show is currently filming Daredevil: Born Again season 2, which is set to premiere in March 2026. Season 1 had a tumultuous production, as Marvel Studios overhauled the show and brought in The Punisher writer Dario Scardapane as showrunner to bring Born Again closer to the tone of Netflix’s Daredevil. It worked, but one of Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s episodes remained unchanged, and it was the one Cox disliked.

Speaking with The Playlist, Charlie Cox got candid about his lack of love for Daredevil: Born Again episode 5, “With Interest.” The episode was the one with the bank heist, and it was not changed after the new creative team came in. According to Cox, the reason he dislikes the episode so much is due to how the actor does not believe that bank heists still work in 2025. Cox thought that was a dated idea for the MCU TV show to tackle. He pushed back on the episode, but it made it to the screen all the same. Check out the full quote below:

“I dunno if this is of interest, but I will say this amongst all of this, there was one episode we didn’t change at all. It’s the episode in the bank [“With Interest”], and that was part of the original [shoot]. We shot that before the strike. That was part of the original, and just for my money, I wasn’t into it. I didn’t like it. It was my least favorite of the episodes, and I kind of pushed back against it as much as I felt was possible. I said, “I don’t believe in a bank heist in 2025. That feels like a 1970s game. Too much technology these days for that to work.” And also, I didn’t think the actual device used for the theft was sophisticated enough. I really pushed back on the episode, and yet I hear from so many people that they love that episode. So, it just goes to show you just don’t know. It’s so subjective. Everyone’s taste is different. And I’ve heard that that episode is one of the highest-rated. Internally, when they do their ratings, it’s one of the highest-rated Disney shows that they’ve had.”

The MCU Star Has Made His Stance On The Show’s Creative Shift Clear

It is no surprise that episode 5 was Cox’s least favorite among the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 episodes. The actor has made it clear on multiple occasions that he was not on board with the creative direction the show was headed in before the creative overhaul. In the same interview with The Playlist, Cox once again touched on that subject. According to the star, he and Wilson Fisk actor Vincent D’Onofrio were worried about alienating those who loved Netflix’s Daredevil, as the new series would not have the same darker tone.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 5 & 6 Review – I Was Thrilled To Finally See Charlie Cox Back In The Daredevil Suit Fighting Muse

Daredevil: Born Again’s latest two episodes are perfect for the MCU fans who felt like the show needed more action, as Daredevil returns in style.

That was worked out, and Daredevil: Born Again season 1 brought back many elements from the original series. That said, since episode 5 remained unchanged, it felt off amid the rest of the season. The episode took place entirely during a bank heist and had minimal connections to the larger story, which certainly did not help Cox enjoy it more, given the actor was already against the idea of bank heists altogether. Based on his comment about how he did not think “the actual device used for the theft was sophisticated enough,” a similar episode in the future is unlikely.

The MCU Series Could Do Without Episodes Like The Bank Heist

I felt Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 was fine and had quite a few fun elements. Seeing Matt Murdock deal with a bank heist without donning the Daredevil suit was interesting. That said, it was clear that episode 5 was a bottle episode that did not add much to season 1’s overall story. Since the show will have one less episode in season 2, I would be okay with no more bottle episodes from now on. As for Cox’s idea that bank heists don’t work anymore, I think they can, if done right, and Daredevil: Born Again‘s was cool enough.
