Brits on holiday at a popular Spanish resort reportedly queued for over an hour to get the best sunbeds.
It’s not unusual to see holidaymakers going the extra mile to get the best spot by the pool. Brits abroad are now starting to set their alarms extra early to queue up for the pool a whole hour before it opens.
Armed with towels, sun cream and flip flops, people wait around until hotel staff have given them the go ahead. The strange queue of people has become a regular morning routine for guests at Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort, Las Palmas, Spain.
Isabelle Hanssen, whose balcony overlooks the pool, enjoyed a morning gander at the pool goers waiting in line. Shocking footage was captured on Wednesday (28 May).
The halfpipe skier noted that the line is usually made up of Brits with a few Germans hanging around. Isabelle, from the Netherlands, also revealed that the queues start from as early as 8am despite the pool not opening until 9:30am.
As there are multiple entrances to the pool, lines of more than ten people form all around the area. Isabelle said: “Lining up 30 minutes before the pool opens all for that one sunbed, priorities I guess.”
People who saw the video were shocked by the scenes. Mark Wandsworth said: “Pathetic and ridiculous, beyond embarrassing.”
Sue Williams added: “It’s not always like this. I was there last week and this never happened once. Madelon commented: “This is my worst nightmare.”
Lisa chimed in: “I always wonder why hotels can’t just allocate sunbeds per room. It would solve this whole problem.” Another remarked: “That’s not a holiday for me.”
Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort is a four star beachfront resort located in Costa Teguise, a town on the east coast of Lanzarote, known for its golden sand beaches. There is a range of pools, some heated and some exclusively for children, surrounded by parasols and sun loungers, as stated on the resort’s website.
Guests can enjoy the adults only area with an exclusive pool and Balinese beds and the hotel also has a “10-lane heated outdoor Olympic swimming pool”, with the option of booking a private lane. It is highly rated on Tripadvisor and guests mentioned the sunbeds in their reviews.
One who stayed at the resort this month said: “Round the pool there are plenty of sunbeds and there are 3 separate pools on the active side never had a problem getting a bed.” Another added: “One of the best things is that they keep the pool area blocked off until 9 am so no towels on sunbeds here.” A third mentioned that there are “normally enough” sun beds while a fourth claimed there are “lots of sunbeds available always.”
