Sister Wives stars Kody and Robyn Brown live in a $2.1 million home in Flagstaff, Arizona, and before they unloaded their old house to buy this one, they were reportedly paying a whopping amount monthly, to cover the mortgage payments for both houses. There’s a lot of chatter about the duo’s spending habits. Yes, they’re famous and get paid for their reality TV appearances, but that doesn’t mean that they’re necessarily rich. Financial lives can be very complicated – a person can have a lot on the surface, but be in debt.
Sometimes, people appear wealthy who are really on the knife edge of financial ruin. This is probably not true for Kody and Robyn, who just sold the Brown family’s land at Coyote Pass for $1.5 million, but there have been rumblings that they live beyond their means. Kody and Meri Brown actually jointly filed for bankruptcy back in 2005. So, it’s not surprising that Kody wants a better life with Robyn, with a fancy house, a Mercedes C-class vehicle, and dazzling David Yurman jewelry.
Kody & Robyn Did Pay $11,000 A Month For Both Homes
That’s A Lot Of Money
As per Yahoo, the cost of maintaining this lifestyle, which seems so Hollywood, although it unfolds in The Grand Canyon State, was sky-high. Before they sold their former home (Kody and Robyn had a “Flintstones” sink), they had to carry $11,000 in mortgage payments a month. Now, they’re probably paying a pretty penny for just one mortgage, but far less than 11K.
Robyn and Kody like the high life – Robyn’s been open about being comfortable with spending money to boost their quality of life. She hinted that Kody’s not always comfortable with the level of spending that she prefers. In fact, Robyn came into the marriage with over 30K in debt. The family had to pay her bills, for Victoria’s Secret pajamas and more, in order to qualify for mortgages in Las Vegas.
Is Robyn The Reason For All This Lavish Spending?
Kody May Try To Please His Beloved Partner
As per Robyn‘s X post from 2015, she needed Victoria’s Secret gear because she has “very long legs.” Apparently, the brand caters to women with her body type. That’s fair enough, and Robyn really shouldn’t have to explain herself like this! She bought stuff, pulling out the plastic, and then had trouble paying for it. Few people haven’t done the same. Maybe if she hadn’t spent money cultivating the ultra-feminine image that she has, Kody wouldn’t have wanted to marry her in the first place.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Robyn faced down critics online who criticized her spending, wondering why everyone kept hassling her about it. Pre-Kody, she was divorced and doing the best she could, raising two kids on her own. She needed things and couldn’t always afford them. That’s something that most fans should be able to relate to, but Robyn never gets a pass. Robyn’s considered a Lady MacBeth-type figure who’s pulled Kody into a life of madness. Again, she probably isn’t that bad.
On reality TV, villain edits are commonplace, so portrayals don’t always show the big picture.
Marriage seemed to put her on a stronger footing financially. In fact, judging by how she lives now, she’s really doing well. Robyn spent 70K on American Girl dolls – that’s a wild amount of money to splash out on toys. If she’s able to do that, she may be quite financially secure, but Gwendlyn Brown, Kody’s daughter with Christine Brown, said that Kody’s known for outrageous spending. So, maybe he squanders cash to please Robyn, who wants to enjoy her life, seemingly not caring how much that costs.
Kody’s Exes’ Lifestyles Aren’t So Lavish
Janelle Has Money Problems
Janelle left her spiritual union with Kody in no position to spend 11K on two mortgages. Above, see her tangle with Kody over their then-unsold Coyote Pass land. Janelle said she left their relationship with almost nothing. She used to go out to work to help provide for the Brown family. In fact, for years, Janelle worked extremely hard.
Christine added value by looking after the Brown kids, who enjoyed her amazing meals and homemaking skills. Meri did the same. All the women helped, but only Robyn gets to live like a queen. This is why there’s so many questions about Robyn and Kody’s financial lives, and so much resentment.
There’s bitterness among the exes and Sister Wives fans.
Kody and Robyn have a house worth more than two million dollars. They cruise around in a luxury car – Kody’s white Mercedes is a glam choice, and costly. Kody has a Rolex wristwatch collection. Both are adorned with David Yurman jewelry, including Kody’s “Heart of the Ocean” pendant. It’s just a lot of spending and a very upscale way of life. Hopefully, they can afford all of this.
The Sister Wives stars are living high on the hog, and there’s so signs that the shade they get for living lavishly is getting to them. They’re comfortable with who they are and how they live. They believe in their relationship and love being in what Robyn has called “the core family.” This leaves the exes and their kids feeling iced out sometimes.
It’s not what the Sister Wives‘ stars Kody and Robyn spend that’s the issue, it’s what Kody didn’t spend on the others. Life as Kody’s ex can be tough. Janelle’s had to start over, working her fingers to the bone to provide for her family. Now, she’s got a business, Taeda Farms, that she’s growing. This flower farm in North Carolina could help her to turn things around. She’s building a home there too. Meri’s got her Worthy Up business – a space where people meet online to build their self-esteem.
The exes are doing well despite real challenges, but they don’t live like Kody and Robyn do. Perhaps all this spending is one reason why Kody and Robyn fight sometimes. This should be a honeymoon period for them – they’re finally alone together, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Robyn thinks Sister Wives‘ Kody Brown‘s trying to sabotage their marriage.
Sister Wives fans can stream the series on the Discovery+ platform.
