Streaming Buzz Continues for ‘The Beekeeper’ Amid Recent Sequel News
Not only is Jason Statham’s tale of a father failing to escape his violent past climbing the Prime Video charts, but so is his tale of a passionate beekeeper who also fails to attempt his violent past. Sometimes, you’ve just got to stick with what you know. Released last year, The Beekeeper is directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer, and stars Jason Statham alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons. The Beekeeper is currently at #7 in the streamer’s top 10, and you can check out details of the wonderfully high-concept below.
“In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.””
The continuing popularity of The Beekeeper is sure to please both Statham and Amazon, with the studio having now picked up the highly anticipated sequel, The Beekeeper 2. Following on from their collaboration on this year’s A Working Man, Amazon MGM Studios has officially acquired the worldwide distribution rights to The Beekeeper 2 in a deal reportedly worth more than $50 million. Set to be directed by The Night Comes for Us, The Shadow Strays, and Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto, details of The Beekeeper 2 remain under wraps, but no doubt the follow-up will pull back the curtain more on the titular organization, throwing all manner of assassins at The Stath.
