What if America’s two most famous Democrats tried to stage comebacks and absolutely no one cared?
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris seem intent on finding out the answer.
Joe has surfaced to give an interview to the BBC on Monday, to be followed Thursday by appearing on “The View,” accompanied by his wife/handler, Jill.
(This comes on the heels of his sad-funny effort to get people to cough up $300,000 a pop to hear him speak.)
For the Beeb, he took President Donald Trump to task for being a very bad, mean ol’ super-not-nice guy; we expect he’ll be every bit as surprising when chatting with Whoopi & Co.
Harris showed up unannounced at the Met Gala with her date-slapping, icon-of-new-masculinity husband and closed down a fancy-schmancy NYC bar with her entourage. In a bizarre speech the week before, she urged Democrats to take inspiration from . . . a recent, viral video of cute elephants.
The response?
A collective yawn from the left and center; minor smirks on the right.
Fact is, they’re both has-beens, fundamentally discredited by their record: feckless foreign policies that set the world ablaze; erasing the border to welcome an illegal-migrant flood; a federal spending spree whose chief impact on average Americans was brutal inflation . . .
Heck, Joe couldn’t even get out of the way in time for Kamala to really be able to run her own campaign (or for his party to choose a stronger candidate).
“We left at a time when we had a good candidate,” he blathered of his geriatric hang-on, adding: “I think it was the right decision.”
Zero reflection. Zero awareness of how criminal migrants and sky-high food prices hurt voters, including once-deep-blue blocs they drove into Trump’s arms.
Zero awareness that America repudiated them and their policies.
But Joe and Kam’s forgettable return highlights an even bigger problem for Democrats: The party has no one better waiting in the wings, and certainly no one willing to repudiate the most disastrous Biden-Harris policies.
AOC has a bit of buzz on the left, but socialism’s a turnoff for most Americans. Gov. Gavin Newsom is a prettier face, but comes with zero substance; same for unctuous, aging Mayor Pete.
The sad thing is, it looks increasingly like Joe & Kam were the best of the bunch.
And that’s truly pathetic.
