The Recording Academy, the awarding body for the GRAMMYs, is giving kudos to the K-pop singers who went solo in the past year. The nearly viral tweet from the Academy named big soloing individuals from groups like NCT, ITZY, (G)I-DLE, and TWICE. The tweet mentioned notable idols such as Yuta, Mark, Yeji, Minnie, and Tzuyu, which was exhilarating for the fandom of these idols, who then flooded the replies with praises for these idols.

The post was linking to the article which is about ten K-pop soloists that have been grabbing hold of their craft in the recent days; but if you ask me, all the fun was in the comments. Fans going all out defending, promoting, or just screaming in caps about their favorites. The energy was all too much! But in a good way.
From the list came to the very top of it Hwang Yeji of ITZY who had her solo debut with ‘Air’ in early 2022. The comments section went wild with some shouting “YEJI IS THE BEST” while another simply said: “YEJI TI AMO” (translation: I love you, Yeji). Someone got so goofy and said: “THE SOLOIST THAT YOU ARE!!!!!” accompanied by fire emoji. The energy… palpable.
Another big-love artist on the list was EXO’s Chanyeol, with a fan calling his solo project ‘amazing!!! ❤️🍒,’ whereas another could not hold back saying: ‘CHANYEOL is an exceptionally talented K-pop artist known not only as a rapper but also as a singer & musician.’ That’s an honor! Yet, there were others showering him with compliments, simply saying, ‘Chanyeol so handsome!’ You know what? I second that.
Yuta of NCT received more; one fan called him “our solo rockstar,” while another begged for a collaboration with Bring Me The Horizon–a bit humorous because it’s pretty specific.
An early entry into the negativities came from a (G)I-DLE fan who flatly told the Recording Academy to “PLEASE put Minnie’s picture in the poster.” Fair. If you’re going to mention her name, you might as well show her face, eh?
The thread had chaotic energy to offer, passionate defenses, and a whole lot of caps lock activity. But that’s K-pop stan Twitter for you- never a dull moment.
Interesting here is the fact that the Recording Academy has now taken to looking into K-pop’s solo ventures. Just recently, there was a time when the GRAMMYs barely acknowledged the genre at all. Now? They are actively showcasing these artists, which feels like a step up. Whether that leads to actual nominations is a whole other story; however, the recognition is certainly something.
For now, though, the fans are just happy to see their favorites getting their flowers. And, judging from the replies, they’ll be celebrating this recognition loud and proud until the whole world hears them.

So yeah, K-pop soloists are killing it, the Recording Academy is starting to take notice, and Twitter is in the middle of an impromptu blast as usual. Just another day in music fandom.
