Laura Ingraham Calls For Consequences As Comey Controversy Heats Up

In some forceful words from Laura Ingraham: The Fox host allege that Comey had greenlit surveillance on the Trump campaign, forgave Hillary Clinton with the so-called “get out of jail free pass,” and demand real consequences tied to a pattern of misconduct, while mysteriously tacking on the phrase “86 47.” Did the internet have anything to say about this? Oh, plenty.

This particular beast of a tweet certainly aggravated the pot, and counteractingly so. Ingraham accused Comey of masterminding the pro-Russian collusion narrative, which Trump supporters have always ubiquitously dismissed as a hoax. Then she added the phrase “86 47” which refers to shell casings found near Comey while he was walking on the beach, which some conservatives view as an ominous threat. Opinions were divided, and under any circumstances, the unforeseen topic was something everyone wanted to talk about.

Another Twitter member named ann wenk clutched back: “Maybe mention Loomer threatening violence on a Supreme Court Judge. She should be questioned by FBI.” Ouch. That statement directly contradicts Ingraham’s narrative, implying that if there’s a discussion about accountability, maybe it shouldn’t be one-way.

Ol’ Blue Eyes retorted: “She forgot to mention Comey gave the election to Trump when he decided to investigate Hillary’s emails just before the election.” That’s one angle that probably wasn’t to Ingraham’s liking.

There seems to be some confusion among some: Rubs said, “What are you on about Laura? 8647 is just a zip code. If it was 18747, then maybe it was newsworthy.” Okay, touche; however, Ingraham’s followers were still not buying that.

And then it got dark. Offendedmale suggested that if Comey knew too much about Hillary, he’d “have already committed suicide.” Yikes. That is the kind of comment that makes one stop and consider how deep the rabbit hole of those conspiracy theories goes.

Becky Barnes gave a dose of reality to Ingraham’s one-sided outrage: “If a person of prominence never faces real consequences, it proves conclusively we have a 2-tiered system of justice!” Unsurprisingly, a sentiment many hold, regardless of political persuasion.

Not everyone agreed with the Ingraham argument. Twitter user JackieBlue® said, with receipts: “MAGA sold 8646 hats and shirts, but that was fine. President tweeted a photo of Biden hog-tied in the back of a pick-up, and that was fine. Snowflakes. Hypocritical snowflakes.” That ought to sting regarding all that hypocrisy Ingraham’s critics say she refuses to acknowledge.

And then came the full reversal: “Why don’t you do your job and investigate a real story. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor called for the assassination of Trump in her dissenting opinion,” said RJGannon. Wait, what? That statement would be a complete leap from the initial tweet.

Needless to say, the Ingraham tweet managed to achieve the objectives it was designed for by day, which were to ignite controversy, rally her base, and get people to argue. Villain or just a guy caught in the political crossfire, debates about Comey are here to stay. The 2024 election is fast heating up, and it’ll be another round of bombshells, conspiracy theories, and fiery tweets on all sides.
