The actor was positively gushing with excitement in the video released by the official film account. “Many people out there have asked me what it’s like to have your first screen kiss, which I just did in ‘The Last Rodeo.’ I suppose for me, it is so special because, as everyone knows, I won’t kiss another woman on screen. But now, I get to kiss the one, the only, my best friend and the love of my life, Ruvé, who plays my wife Rose in the film.”
Having made a name for himself as villains and tough guys, this bucket-list moment was acknowledged by McDonough. To actually play the hero and kiss the girl in the end is something I’ve never done, but something I’ve always wanted to do all my life,” said McDonough. I get to do it now.” He gave thanks to Angel Studios for giving him the opportunity to cast himself into the role and declared it to be “awesome.”
The post quickly garnered a huge amount of reaction, the majority wholeheartedly praising the McDonough’s commitment to his marriage and their faith. “Love his commitment to his wife and to the Lord! We need more men like this,” said one comment, while a second added, “Your morals are incredible, and I applaud you for having clear boundaries set.”
However, a handful of people were less than enthused. One commenter couldn’t resist injecting some irony, joking, “I think it’s so funny that you’re fine with playing characters that kill lots of people but you draw the line at kissing someone lol.” And, by and large, the majority of responses that followed were in admiration of McDonough’s stance in an industry where personal boundaries are frequently blurred for the sake of roles.
Fans expressed their eagerness for the film, themselves, to hit theaters: “Seeing it tomorrow!!!!!! I can’t wait!” one enthused, to which another replied, “So excited to see this movie!”
McDonough has spoken openly about never doing any physical relations scenes on screen except those with his wife-at times losing great roles because of it. Back in the day, McDonough stated that his faith and commitment to his wife weigh more than regards from anybody-meaning Hollywood trends included. Meaning, then, this project not only fits all of McDonough’s values but will also give him a rare chance to share a cinematic achievement with the love of his life.
Currently showing in theaters, if the reception thus far is any indication, ‘The Last Rodeo’ is poised for all those itching to support an off-screen love story. McDonough’s unwavering may from this day onward keep educating the world that sometimes an actor’s most courageous statement isn’t said in a script but in decisions made behind the camera.
