Taylor Swift’s Subpoena Challenged by Blake Lively’s Lawyer

Blake Lively‘s lawyer, Mike Gottlieb, has recently challenged Taylor Swift’s subpoena in the ongoing legal case between Lively and her “It Ends with Us” co-star, Justin Baldoni. Gottlieb sat for an exclusive interview with PEOPLE and addressed how Baldoni’s team members have mentioned they may subpoena high-profile celebrities, including Swift and Hugh Jackman. The lawyer also questioned the “relevance” of Baldoni’s team subpoenaing these celebrities.

Blake Lively’s lawyer mocks Taylor Swift subpoena

Mike Gottlieb, the lawyer representing Blake Lively in the legal case between her and Justin Baldoni, has recently raised questions regarding Taylor Swift‘s subpoena by the “It Ends with Us” director’s team. In a new interview with PEOPLE, the lawyer stated, “It’s completely unclear what claims or defenses in the case any of these celebrities… have any relevance to at all.” Gottlieb continued, “This is a case about what happened to Blake Lively when she raised claims of sexual harassment on the set.”

Referring to the high-profile celebrities like actor Hugh Jackman and singer Taylor Swift, the lawyer clarified that the ongoing case was not “about how songs were chosen for the movie” or “fictional Marvel characters in Deadpool movies.” Emphasizing his point, Gottlieb asked, “Why are these people being subpoenaed?”

He then argued whether the aforementioned stars “have any actual relevance to the case at hand.” Gottlieb remarked, “You can’t just go around subpoenaing people because they’re famous and you think it will generate a bunch of headlines.” The lawyer also emphasized that “the federal courts don’t tolerate that kind of behavior.”

During the interview, Mike Gottlieb even discussed how Blake Lively has been preparing to testify in court. He said, “The ultimate moment for a plaintiff’s story to be told is at trial.” The lawyer added, “We expect that to be the case here [with Lively]. So we would, of course, expect her to be a witness at her trial. Of course she’s going to testify.”
