Director Timo Tjahjanto
has teased something hugely exciting for action fans. Taking to social media, The Beekeeper 2 director has teased an upcoming sequel starring one of Netflix’s newest action heroes, The Shadow Strays lead Aurora Ribero. But what we don’t know is which international organization of assassins that Ribero is joining. It could be a sequel to The Shadow Strays. Or it could just as easily mean that the actress is all set to join action icon Jason Statham
in The Beekeeper follow-up.
Sharing an image of himself alongside Ribero, Tjahjanto and The Shadow Strays lead are seen holding up two fingers. Which all but confirms that the pair are reuniting for one of the director’s two sequels. However, what leans us more towards The Beekeeper 2 is the caption, which reads, “The Buzz just gettin started.” Surely this can only be one of the many bee-related puns that’s sure to litter The Stath sequel?

The Stath’s latest action outing is now streaming.
Fans have taken to social media to share their excitement and confusion, with one X/Twitter user saying, “Me trying to decipher this either as a shadow strays sequel or beekeeper 2 posts (im losing my mind).” Another says, “Its kinda hard to guess when u had multiple “2” titles in ur sleeves sir.” It’s worth noting at this stage that Tjahjanto is also behind the camera for another action sequel, Nobody 2, which unleashed its first trailer last week.
Could ‘The Shadow Strays’ Star Join Jason Statham as Another Beekeeper?
Directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer, The Beekeeper stars Jason Statham alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons. Hitting theaters and streaming with a bang last year, the first The Beekeeper finds The Stath leading the way as the mysterious Adam Clay, a lowly beekeeper who reveals he is none other than a retired black ops assassin from an organization known as “Beekeepers,” who embarks on a quest for revenge after his only friend is murdered.
The action thriller was a huge success for the action star, grossing $152.7 million at the worldwide box office and scoring 71% from critics and 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. While it took a lot longer than it should have, a sequel has now been officially confirmed, with Timo Tjahjanto taking over from Ayer, with Amazon MGM Studios having now acquired the rights.
While details of The Beekeeper 2 remain under wraps, adding The Shadow Strays’ Aurora Ribero to the fray as another mysterious assassin alongside Statham would be a masterstroke. Of course, the tease could be for the (equally exciting) The Shadow Strays 2. Written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto, The Shadow Strays landed on Netflix last year and follows Ribero as the assassin known as 13, a 17-year-old trained killer who embarks on a mission of destruction after her friend, an 11-year-old boy named Monji, is captured. While The Shadow Strays 2 has not yet been officially confirmed by Netflix, Tjahjanto has teased a few details of his plans, with the sequel “taking a lot of inspiration from The Godfather 2.”
