The usual handsome role goes to an unusually interesting escapee hiding out in Toys R Us. The image from Paramount’s upcoming Roofman starring Tatum has landed and begun creating a crescendo of buzz. Based on a very weird real-life story, Paramount Pictures sees Tatum take the César role alongside Kirsten Dunst, Juno Temple, and Peter Dinklage. The first look portrays Tatum’s character sharing a rather friendly, kind of chill moment with another character beside a green car, which pretty aptly sets a tone for humor and intrigue.

The film had its principal photography in Charlotte, North Carolina, so it has made quite an impression locally. One Facebook user who lives in those parts shared the surreal feeling of spotting Tatum filming down in the town, more so as he always took time to smile and wave to people. Another user added that the actual events that inspired the film even happened there in the city, making the entire idea all the more surreal.
The reception to the first look has been overwhelmingly favorable. The Tatum fans got all fired up with one saying, IN ALL CAPS, HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOVIE. Others who are just discovering the project are intrigued by the mere mentioning of the cast. Juno Temple’s involvement peaked the interest of many, especially those who loved her in “Fargo” and “Ted Lasso.”
A huge blast from the past came with so many comments saying they miss Toys R Us, which is apparently central to the film’s setting. One even joked that the premise sounds like some oddly weird “Florida Man”-headline.
The excitement behind-the-scenes was a mirror to that in front of the camera. The set photographer, who helps with publicity, chimed in, while one very local user revealed that some scenes were filmed in their neighborhood, including a house party!
With the official trailer dropping tomorrow, the anticipation is at an all-time high. Is Roofman going to deliver? With the cast at hand and the crazy true story in the center, it better be something worth watching.

And for those still holding out hope, yes–biggest question of all–was actually asked in the comments about 23 Jump Street. No word on that yet, but hey, keep dreaming.
