In an Instagram post just made by Ellen DeGeneres, a wild story was told in which Rosie Perez featured, and basically, the kind of story that only people with Perez-type fiery temperament could have. The post was a throwback clip, presumably from a talk show appearance, that set the Internet abuzz, and perhaps some of the reactions were never what Ellen had bargained for.

In the clip, Ellen tells of an insane experience she said took place Mara Gras in Rio de Janeiro, although the Brazilians were quickly heard shooting back with,”The celebrations are called Carnival, stand corrected.” Except the far greater drama took place inside a cab and outside it! The two came to a fare dispute with the driver; the thing soon became physical—the man reaches back to maybe hit her as she fights him Brooklyn style—and then the girl had to leap out of a moving taxi.
The post-level footage in question is very animated yet just one shot of Rosie mid-conversation, in a chic black dress. The international-themed set and cheeky captions all pointed to a lighthearted moment; however, the story was anything but.
Reactions after Ellen’s post were mixed. Some even chimed that the lady will never lose her flavor: “She hasn’t changed since Do The Right Thing. She’s great!” Other, however, were not so enchanted with the story and were quick to begin a chorus of skeptics. One Brazilian commented: “My city is Rio 60 year and I never saw Volkswagen taxi even two doors to taxi… something wrong here.” Another dared falsehood, confidently stating, “Que mentira… isso jamais aconteceria no Rio de Janeiro.”
As the skepticism soared, some Brazilians stepped in to say that Mardi Gras really isn’t a thing in Brazil; it’s “Carnival” there. One user said hilariously, “Mardi Gras MEU OVO! Carnaval porra!” Others started to question the feasibility of the story itself, and especially the kind of taxi concocted in the story. “Um fusca?? Taxi? Ela veio nos anos 70?”
Once doubts had been successfully sewn, a few worried Brazilians began to depict the plausibility of such an event: “Rio is notorious for robberies there. My friend was robbed on the beach.” Another Brazilian, apparently not too intimidated, seemed to somewhat seriously invite Ellen to Rio: “You are very welcome to my City! I Love you sweet Ellen!”
Whether it was a true story or just a tall tale, some of it really did speak there. And try to name one thing Rosie Perez does not inject into any discourse: that one word energy represents that kind of assertive charisma; it’s exactly what this post was about. This mixture of hilarity, drama, and cultural confusion made this moment on social media utterly fascinating but resolutely divisive.
At the very least, Ellen was reminding people with this post: travel stories run dangerously close to exaggeration, and Perez is an icon who elevates any story to must-see entertainment. Hopefully, somebody finds out to see if that taxi driver still reeks of after-effects of that Brooklyn-style wrath.

In a related note, Greyson Chance, a recent breakout star on the show, has spoken out against the comedian who has experienced a lot of buzz lately. In a surprising turn, Charlie Puth even mentioned losing ties with Ellen’s record label, which adds yet another layer of intrigue to the ongoing conversation surrounding her social media presence.
