MTV wants to throw the internet into sheer confusion as no one ever really decided on whether they heard JoJo Siwa or G Flip. This was spawned from a clip of Australian-based G Flip singing his version of the Weather Girls 1983 classic hit “It’s Raining Men” now called “It’s Raining Them,” as a queer-friendly salute for #QueerMusicWeek celebrations. The comments on this clip almost deserve a re-look.

The vividly colored still captures G Flip drumming one hell of a set outside, wearing a sleeveless shirt with the words “It’s Raining Here.” The vibe strangely perfect for the burgeoning LGBTQ+ classic, being amplified by festival lights. MTV captioned the post, saying to the fans to “leave that umbrella inside,” for the fans surely celebrated, just not in the widely accepted manner.
This is where it gets weird. Some 60% of the comments were some form of, “Wait… is that Jojo Siwa??” Someone kicked it off with, asking if anybody else immediately thought of the now-ex Dance Moms, with replies pouring in: “I did too 😭,” “Their voice is way too accurate 😂,” “This isn’t Jojo????” Even the Spanish comments got into the confusion: “Pensaba que era Jojo Siwa” (I thought it was Jojo Siwa).
Some stood up for G Flip and said, “Let’s put some respect on G Flip’s name and talents,” while others did the comparison. It’s hard not to hear where the vocal similarities come from-especially when G Flip launched those high notes. That drumming though, it’s pure G Flip; it’s awe-inspiring. “Seeing any singer where they drum and sing at the same time blows my mind,” one musician commented, launching a brief aside about multitasking talents.
Pink supports the release; some even found it offensive. Anti-liberals: “It’s raining MEN. My gosh, does any song man or women have to be changed,” while another one said, “Actually insulting to the person who originally wrote that song,” and spurred a few moments of debate on artistic interpretation vis-à-vis respect for the original. Most fans were against that; one woman shot back: “Lighten up! Have you listened to the lyrics of the song? Do you know anything about the Weather Girls or Two Tons of Fun? Next time before you speak, a google search is free.”
Positive comments and praises were thrown at it. There was that near unanimous agreement that, generally speaking, “This is actually kinda dope.” Many just got introduced to G Flip, and one admits this video pushed her down the rabbit hole into their discography: “Found a new artist! I liked their disco cowgirl song.” Another complimented G Flip’s Taylor Swift cover, calling it “soooo good. Better than the original,” thus triggering an entire chain of mocking comments.
For those under a rock, G Flip is the stage name of non-binary Georgia Flipo from Australia, who has been in the limelight since their debut in 2018. They are currently dating Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, and the relationship from reality TV is not going unnoticed. “Okay Chrishell… I get it. I get it,” joked one fan.

This performance aired on MTV for #QueerMusicWeek, celebrating LGBTQ artists and their anthems. By Flip-ing the script on this classic, G Flip has revitalized it yet still trying to hold on to its essence of joyous celebration. JoJo confusion aside, the massive response is a testament that this remake is an outright hit—even if some of those fans may want a second opinion for their ears. Be it raining men, them, or tacos from the sky (there was a random shoutout to Roblox from the comments), this version is keeping everyone busy dancing on the floor and making very enthusiastic double takes.
